Book Reviews
How to write reviews
book review
Though, if you think reviewing someone else's master piece is easy, then think again. It is quite the opposite! Albeit fun, writing a book review is a major responsibility. Readers rely on reviews to pick out which book is for them, and authors rely on reviews to build their standing in the book world, and of course to sell books. A book including tons of four and five star book reviews will draw far greater interest than one either lacking reviews or getting poor book reviews. Good book reviews are the cornerstone of the author's standing and a ticket to better and much greater exposure. Frequently they can persuade readers to buy a book much more often than paid advertising can as reviews tend to be given freely and without prejudice, and, for that reason, bring far greater power.

book review A well-written review will be received the same as a well-written book. Remember, ...
... if you are commenting on someone else's masterpiece, comments which can well cover the book's editing, it does help to offer a review in a fair and concise method, liberated from grammatical mistakes. Above all, the review must be of usefulness to the reader; past all he or she is searching for a another and meaningful read and can look somewhere else if the reviews fall short of expectations.

A couple of factors to bear in mind when writing your review:
a. A review does two items; it describes the book and it appraises the book. It's not a complete description of the book.
b. It can be better to review a style you could share with and enjoy reading much more than rather alien to you. Commencing with "this just isn't really my thing, but..." is very negative, and struggling through something you are not comfortable with, is not worth the effort.

The guidelines of reviewing - Are there any guidelines!
There is no right or incorrect style to write a book review. Reviews are a personal opinion. Each is the opinion of that particular reviewer, and as such written from an exclusive standpoint. There's, still, a few elements that I recommend, and you may wish to seriously consider, before you start writing.

Read the book from cover to cover (sounds impractical but a brief browse through won't cut the mustard -you need to find a proper feel for the book). Providing the book you have chosen to book review ends up not to be as absorbing and entertaining as you thought it should, consider yourself committed, and see it through to the end in any case. Find a grasp of its contents. Write notes as needed - it will save time sorting through a second time for the details. On the other hand, providing a precise part is worthy of note, or there is certainly something you should enjoy quoting, denote that point in your notes.

Bear in mind the plot. Did you enjoy the plot? Did the story have a plot! Did the plot go the way you thought it should go, and providing so, was it executed well and did it all make any sense? What is too quick or too lengthy, rapidly paced or too slow? What is it conclusive?

Give thought to the characters. Were they well-developed? Are they weak or powerful? Were they likeable? Did you have a favourite character? Were the characters germane to the story? (Not as weird as it sounds. Some characters have a habit of crawling into stories and have no bearing to the story)

From whose prespective was the book written?

Did you enjoy the book?

Did you loathe the book?

Was the book well edited?

Was the book suitable to its target readers?

Is the book trying to convey a message?

could you read further from this author?

Assuming you have done all of the above, it is time to write it all down forming your first book review. This is the imaginitive part; the spot where you could actually share your own writing talents. Don't of course get too creative, the reader is in the market for a rather clear-cut assessment, but one or two lively observations can add to the readability of a book review.

Writing the Review}
These points are not set in granite; they are simply guidelines.

The introductions: the book title, the author, the genre and where the book can be purchased. Tell the reader the price of the novel in its various publications. (I.e. eBook, Hardback, Paperback). Write a short introduction, one sentence will work, to capture the readers attention.

Make your review mindful and engaging. Always take into account, someone's status depends on it.

It is not needed to present a long and thorough summary. The author will have already completed this at the point of sale. Describe the contents in brief, devoid of giving away the ending, and, as a general rule of thumb, don't go further than the middle of the book with your description. And, hard and fast rule number one - in no way spoil the ending. Providing the book is part of a series, it can be useful to mention this as well, even providing you have not read any others.

Tell the reader what you think of the style of writing, the plot and the characters. Tell the reader how much or how little you liked the book and why. Incorporate any other points you feel are important and would help the reader to decide whether or not he or she could like to read this book.

Give a pithy review of your thoughts. Include your view of the age group/kind of reader you believe it would be best suited to.

Rate the book. This is typically, but not at all times, on a one to five star basis.
What providing I don't like the book?

If your thoughts are unfavourable - be straightforward and say so. But do it in a proficient way. Try not to offend, and never ‘be personal'. You are empowered, state your views clearly and fairly, and try and ‘be nice' as the expression goes. This isn't a stand to offer insults. Remember the author will, more than likely, have put in everything he or she has into writing this book - it will be probably their ‘precious baby' and they want everyone else to feel the same route about it as they do. Years of hard work may be behind the publication and it is worth appreciating this fact. Besides, we authors are a rare species and can tend to favor towards the sensitive. Try not to be completely negative, but don't forget you also have a accountability to your readers.

Bear in mind: Always be honest, impartial, and agreeable. By giving an author a review, you are giving the author a gift. Your review could make someone very happy, but it could also ruin their day, so pick out your words cautiously. And who knows; once you start to post a few more reviews, you can even get some reviews in return for your stories.

Some last words before you hit that ‘Publish' button:
Edit like mad!! Check your spelling (use spellcheck, but bear in mind it isn't infallible) and check your grammar. Leave for a while before in the market through again. Make sure you're fully satisfied with your written book review, and then strike that publish button.

Complete!
Congratulations! You've now added ‘anchor' to your growing list of skills - another string to your recognizable bow! Now you can proudly share with all your contacts, fans and followers from book-spot.com.

Personally, I have always found reviewing a really pleasing experience and one I highly recommend, and I hope you too will enjoy it just as much as I do. Have fun with it, and I you wish bucket-loads of luck writing book reviews!
