How To Reach- Kolkata To Darjeeling

Kolkata is the capital of the state of West Bengal. It is the third most populous city India and is located on the banks of Hooghly river. It is a major cultural, educational and commercial centre of India. The oldest functioning port in India is located in Kolkata and is known as the Port of Kolkata. The culture is diverse and is mainly dominated by drama, film, art, theatre and literature. Kolkata also has a significant role in the history of India. There are many historical monuments and buildings in Kolkata. Many visitors come from different parts of the world to learn about its culture and history every year.
Darjeeling is located in the state of West Bengal in east India. It is a very popular tourist destination and is located in the Lesser Himalayas. It is situated at an altitude of 2050 m above sea level. Darjeeling is alsom known for producing some of the best quality tea in India. The Darjeeling Himalayan Railway or Toy Train has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1999. Darjeeling has pleasant climate throughout the year and is a popular summer retreat. Tea and tourism is the mainstay of the economy.
The total distance between Kolkata and Darjeeling (both in West Bengal) is 634 Km. It takes 8 hrs 50 minutes by road. Regular bus service connects Darjeeling and Kolkata while taxis can also be hired from Kolkata which costs anywhere between Rs 12,000 to Rs 17,000 (for a round trip). But a bus trip is generally recommended to the back packers and the adventure junkies only.
The closest airport to Darjeeling is Bagdogra near Siliguri at a distance of 96 Km which is well connected to Kolkata airport. From airport one can easily take taxis to Darjeeling which charges around Rs 1,200. Air India, the largest airline of India has flights from Kolkata - IC 721 (on Tu/Th/Sat) Jet Airways, a private airline, has flights from Kolkata 9W 617 (Daily). Spice Jet also operates flights from Kolkata & Delhi.
The nearest railway stations connecting Kolkata to Darjeeling are Siliguri Jn (SGUJ) and New Jalpaiguri. Many trains are available from Siliguri and New Jalpaiguri to Darjeeling. One can rely on different modes of transportation from here to Darjeeling. Taxis are the most popular modes of transport here and are usually shared by three to four passengers.
Shared jeeps are another popular way of transportation and jeeps depart regularly, from several locations around town. They leave only when Jeep is full, and are a cheap, fast and reasonably comfortable way to get to Darjeeling. Shared jeep (carrying up to ten passengers) will charge around Rs.150/ to Rs.200/ but it mostly depends on the time of travel.(read

Kodaikanal, also called the ‘Princess of Hill stations', is a popular tourist destination especially for honeymooners. Kodaikanal is situated in the Palani Hill range in the state of Tamil Nadu. Kodaikanal was established by American Missionaries in 1845 to get
respite from the heat and the dreaded malaria. The artificial Kodaikanal

Kodaikanal. Boating can be enjoyed in its lake. The city of Kodaikanal is

Madurai, a popular temple town in south India, is situated in the state

ruled by Pandyas for a long time. It has a rich culture and an ancient
history. Madurai was constructed in the shape of a lotus and so the
city is also known as the ‘Lotus City'. Madurai is famous for a temple

Since Kodaikanal does not have any airport, it can be accessed by
bus and trains from Madurai. There are several trains pass through
Kodaikanal from Madurai. Express and superfast trains like Mumbai
Express, Cape Howrah Express, Chennai Express and Ten Jammu
Express connect the two cities.
Regular government bus services are available from Madurai to
Kodaikanal and they charge Rs. 20/- to Rs. 50/- for a trip. Private buses
charge Rs. 3/- per km. They are reliable, comfortable and frequent.
Taxis charge Rs. 2600/- to reach Kodaikanal from Madurai. This cab is
for four people. For seven people it costs Rs. 3600/- per trip.
It takes approximately 2 hours 20 minutes to cover 119 km from
Madurai to Kodaikanal for your own vehicle depending upon the
vehicle.
Kodaikanal hotels include all types of hotels like resorts, luxury hotels,
medium luxury hotels and budget hotels. They provide deluxe rooms
and cheap rooms. These hotels provide all facilities for a relaxed and

How To Reach – Udaipur To Mount Abu

Mount Abu, set amongst Sylvian forest, is one of the best places to
spend your vacation in the desert city. Mount Abu is the main Jain
pilgrim center situated in the Sihori district in the state of Rajasthan.
Located at an elevation of 1220 m above sea level, Mount Abu is the
only hill station in the state. Placed in the Aravalli ranges, Mount Abu

According to legend, Mount Abu is known as Arbudaranya after the

regular private and Rajasthan Pradesh Road Transport Corporation
buses available that cost you around Rs. 100/- for a trip and it takes
around 4 hours to reach Mount Abu from Udaipur.
Taxis charge Rs. 3500/- to reach Udaipur to Mount Abu. This cab is
small and for four people. For seven people it costs Rs. 4800/- for round
trip.
If you can drive, it takes approximately 2 hours 50 minutes to cover the
distance of 167 km depending upon the vehicle.
Mount Abu has 37 hotels which include resorts, medium range hotels

How To Reach – Mumbai To Kolkata

Mumbai, the capital city of Maharashtra, and Kolkata, the capital city of West Bengal are two main cities in India. Kolkata is at a distance of about 1970 km away from Mumbai. Kolkata is well-connected to Mumbai through all modes of transportation, air, rail and road.
Travel by road is not recommended to reach Kolkata from Mumbai since the distance can only be covered within 24 hours even by using the train services available. There is less number of private vehicles available to travel from Mumbai to Kolkata since the trip by road can be troublesome. Bus services by the government and private agencies to travel from Mumbai to Kolkata are less in number due to security reasons.
For those travelers who are adventurous and want to drive from Mumbai to Kolkata, the travel can take at least three days to reach Kolkata from Mumbai. Though the roads that lead to Kolkata from Mumbai are fine, there can be problems due to traffic congestions. The two main halts during the road journey should be Nagpur on day 1 and Sambalpur on day 2.
In cross contradiction to the road journey, there are plenty of flight services from Mumbai to Kolkata that will only take a travel time of about 3 hours. This mode though expensive, is the best way to reach Kolkata from Mumbai. Direct flights are available from Mumbai to Kolkata that are comfortable and suited for the elderly and families with kids. Kolkata airport is situated at a distance of about 14 km away from the city center to where a number of taxis and buses are available.
Travel from Mumbai to Kolkata by train which will at least take 24 hours of travel time is considered to be the most economical and comfortable way to travel from Mumbai to Kolkata. Though there are a number of trains running between the railway stations, the best train is the HWH Duronto that provides services only on Tuesdays and Saturdays. This train does not stop in any stations between Mumbai and Kolkata. Kolkata Howrah Junction railway station is located at a distance of about 2 km away from the city center. A lot of taxis, rickshaws and buses are available from the Kolkata Howrah Junction railway station to the city center.
CSTM Howrah Spl, Kolkata Mail, Howrah Mail, Gitanjali Express and Howrah Super Express are the names of a few trains that provide service from Mumbai to Kolkata from the Mumbai CST railway station on selected days. Train journey from Mumbai to Kolkata can cost 1775 rupees per traveler in an A/C three tier coach. This is the most suitable mode of transportation from Mumbai to Kolkata for the aged and families with kids.(read

How To Get From Shirdi To Delhi By Road, Rail And Air

Shirdi, a small town in Maharashtra, is famous worldwide for its association with the great Indian Saint, Shirdi Sai Baba. Situated in the Ahmednagar District of Maharashtra, Shirdi is also known as the ‘Land of Sai'. Delhi, the capital of India, is situated by the Yamuna River. Spread over an area of 1483 sq km, the city of Delhi has its historical importance for the fact that it has been the seat of the Mughal Empire for many years. Delhi is dotted with tombs, forts and monuments. Apart from its historical importance, Delhi also happens to be the political hub of India, serving as the centre of the Government of India. The city was planned by the British architect, Sir Edwin Lutyens, thus giving the name 'Lutyens' Delhi. Delhi has a cosmopolitan population where there are people from every nook and corner of the country. This makes the city very multi linguistic and multi cultured.
There are numerous sightseeing options in Delhi. Some of them are the Red Fort, Chandi Chowk, Lotus Temple, Humayuns Tomb, Delhi Zoo, Purana Quila, Jantar Mantar, Birla Mandir, Qutab Minar, Akshar Dham and India Gate.The distance from Shirdi to Delhi is 1247 km.If you are hard pressed for time, the best way to cover this distance is to fly from Shirdi to Delhi. Though there is no airport in Shirdi, one can take a flight from Nashik, the airport closest to Shirdi, and fly to Delhi. As only single air line operates in this route, this is not the best way to travel from Shirdi to Delhi.
Though there are no direct trains connecting Shirdi to Delhi, one can travel from Shirdi to Delhi via Kopargaon or Manmad. These two stations are 14 and 55 km respectively from Shirdi with direct train connections to either the New Delhi railway station or the Nizamudin railway station in Delhi. Some trains from Shirdi to Delhi via Manmad or Kopargaon are Punjab Mail, Swarna Jayanthi, Nizamudin Kolhapur Express, Nizamudin Pune Super Express, Mangla Lakshadweep Express, Jhelum Express, Amritsar Nanded Express, Goa Express, Amritsar Dadar Express and Karnataka Express.
For the adventurous, even driving down from Shirdi to Delhi is an option. It takes an average time of 18 to 20 hours to cover the 1247 km from Shirdi to Delhi. Interstate buses are available from Shirdi to Delhi, overnight.Private A/C and non A/C buses are available from Shirdi to Delhi at a cost of Rs 1500 to Rs 2000 per head, depending on the type of bus and seat selected. Another option is to hire taxi from Shirdi to Delhi which will cost about Rs 10,000. This is not a feasible option.(read

How To Travel – Delhi To Katra

New Delhi, capital of India, has numerous monuments, archaeological structures and amusement parks to attract travellers. Major tourist attractions in the city include old monuments like Red Fort, Qutab Minar, Purana Qila and Jama Masjid.
Red Fort, constructed by Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan using red sandstone, is an important heritage site in Delhi. Red Fort has Diwan-i-Khas, Diwan-i-Aam, Lahore Gate, Mumtaz Mahal and Hayat Bakhsh Bagh. It is also the site, where the Indian Prime Minister hoists the national flag and addresses the public on Independence Day on August15.
Among the modern monuments in Delhi are India Gate Swaminarayan Akshardham Temple, Raj Ghat (Mahatma Gandhi Samadhi), Lakshmi Narayan Temple or Birla Mandir, Gurudwara Bangla Sahib, Gurudwara Sis Ganj Sahib, Parliament House, Rashtrapati Bhavan and Rajpath.
Humayun's Tomb, Lotus Temple, ISKCON Temple, Jantar Mantar, National Museum, International Dolls Museum, National Zoological Park, National Railway Museum, Teen Murti Bhavan, Lodhi Garden and Safdarjung's Tomb also attract travellers in large numbers.
Katra, a small town in Jammu and Kashmir, is situated at a distance of 625 km from Delhi. Nestled in the lap of the Trikuta Mountains, Katra is approximately 42 km from Jammu and is a major stop-over for tourists visiting Vaishno Devi Temple. The pilgrims visiting this shrine have risen from 1.4 million to 8.2 million in the last two decades.
Katra has many sightseeing destinations for tourists. They include Bhairon Temple, Banganga River, Darshani Darwaza, Charanpaduka, Adhkunwari, Himkoti, Sanjichhat, Jhajjar Kotli and Baba Dhansar Temple. It is believed that the darshan of Mata Vaishno Devi is not complete without the darshan of Bhairon Idol in this temple.
Katra is well connected to Delhi by air, rail and Road. There is an airport in Jammu, which is 42 km from Katra. There are regular flights from Delhi to Jammu. The flight takes nearly 90 minutes to reach the destination.
There are several daily trains from Delhi to Jammu, which is the nearest railhead to Katra. Among them are Bandra Terminus-Amritsar/Kalka Paschim Express (No.19023), Pune-Jammu Tavi Express (No. 11077), Indore-Jammu Tavi Malwa Express (No.12919) and New Delhi-Jammu Tavi Shalimar Express (No.14645). Besides, there are several direct trains to Jammu in some days of the week. The journey from Delhi to Jammu takes ten to 11 hours. The tourists coming by air or rail will have to take a bus or car from Jammu to travel to Katra.
The journey by bus from Delhi to Katra takes around 12 hours. The route passes through Karnal, Panipat, Ambala, Jalandhar and Jammu. The route has several petrol pumps, dhabas, small restaurants and rest houses. The journey by taxi cab will take around 11 hours to travel from Delhi to Katra. The minimum taxi fare is Rs.11 per kilometre.(read
