Updating Your Home In The New Year    Submitted as: Mark Philmont
We are planning one big project for the New Year. Every year right after the holidays, we coordinate some sort of new addition, design, or layout for our house. This year we decided to clear out the old kitchen cabinets. We already had new appliances (from a very nice Christmas gift, last year) so we thought we would spruce up the “other furnishings” in the kitchen.(read entire article)

Thrifty Shopping For Renovation Costs   By: gary nealon
You can save thousands of dollars on a kitchen renovation or even on a new kitchen. There are many ideas for cutting corners or saving money, but the most direct route is to find the best prices. I have looked in many big box retail stores, smaller home centers, local supply stores, and online. The absolute best prices and value were found on the internet. The overall preeminent cabinet type that provided value and quality was the RTA type of cabinet. (Ready to Assemble).(read entire article)

Rehabbing Your Kitchen With Current Design Trends    Submitted as: Jason Delmar
Just like fashion and interior design, different cabinet styles travel in and out of style throughout the years. A popular color might be in for five to ten years and then be out of style for the next decade. A kitchen, much like other rooms in a house has its own feel and attitude. You want your kitchen to be warm and inviting, but at the same time you want it to convey a sense of modern appeal. Much of this “attitude adjustment” can be accomplished with new kitchen cabinets.(read entire article)

Sourcing Contractor Grade Cabinets For Your Projects    Submitted as: Jason Delmar
On my last visit to Home Depot, I was surprised to see that the store closest to my house actually stopped carrying the Mills Pride line of cabinets. In talking to one of the store associates he said that they took up too much storage space in the store, and that they could make a lot more money off the name brand cabinets that they sell (plus they didn't have to warehouse them, or physically touch them). As a home remodeler, I was disappointed that they were no longer carrying them, since I now had to find a new place to get all of my kitchen cabinets and bathroom vanities.(read entire article)

Common Problems When Remodeling An Older Home    Submitted as: Jason Delmar
Depending on the age of your home, it is not uncommon for walls to not be perfectly square, or surfaces to be perfectly level. This is often one of the biggest challenges when remodeling an old home, especially the kitchen. In older homes, the cabinets were often build specifically for the space, so you will often find that modern cabinets (which should be square and level) will not fit exactly right. It is amazing how fat off surfaces can be and you won't notice it until you try to remodel.(read entire article)

Popular Cabinet Colors And Styles In The Midwest    Submitted as: Jason Delmar
Recently we were rehabbing a house and wanted to stay up to date with what style’s and colors were “in” with kitchen cabinets. We already were on a limited budget, however we realized that the perfect kitchen cabinet style could make or break the kitchen. Add in the fact that some cabinet colors or stains just do not work with some kitchens and you realize that an important decision is in your hands. We decided to do some research on what is current, what is popular in different regions and what will be a style and color that will hold up to the ever changing landscape of kitchen designs.(read entire article)

Tips For Laying Out Your Bathroom    Submitted as: Jason Delmar
Updating your bathroom design involves more than just deciding what color to paint the walls. A redesign means that you can swap out the layout and make room for a separate shower and more storage units. The first step is to plan the design as with kitchens, your local supplier will run off a computer-generated plan based on the bathroom's dimensions and your particular requirements.(read entire article)

How To Work With A Small Bathroom    Submitted as: Jason Delmar
A small bathroom is a common problem, particularly in older homes. The last thing you want is your bathroom to be as cramped, but depending on the layout of your home, you may not have the space to enlarge it. While we usually don't think of it this way, the bathroom is second most used room in your house (if not the most used).(read entire article)

Differentiating Between Kitchen Cabinet Box Styles    Submitted as: Jason Delmar
At first glance, kitchen cabinets may all seem the same. People rarely stop to think about what else cabinets consist of, when in fact the most important part of the cabinet itself is behind the facade. The structure to which the doors are attached is the main component of kitchen cabinets. Without a strong support structure, cabinets would be nothing more than decoration. There are two primary structures for cabinets, framed and frameless construction. Each style creates a unique appearance for the cabinets and requires very different methods of fastening the structure of the cabinet.(read entire article)
