Web development is indeed a very good career choice in this age. The salaries are good, and there are many job opportunities. There are various options for beginners, like part time jobs, freelancing, and working from home. And you can work from anywhere!
So, web development is a very good choice for a career. But learning the fundamentals is very important. Start by learning HTML and CSS to gain basic knowledge. Then move on to learning JavaScript to add interactivity to your webpages. Then learn PHP to create database driven dynamic web pages. Then learn MySQL databases. Once you have the basics of programming, you can choose your area of specialization and learn the skills that are relevant, e.g., Jquery, AngularJS, NodeJS, etc. But that doesn't mean every website developer should have every skill.
