Although there are many different classifications of pearls based on the areas where they are grown or cultured, other unusual or special classifications exist as well. The natural pearl or Conch Pearl is one that can only be found grown naturally from conch shells. This pearl is very rare and only about one out of five of these can be used for jewellery. Because of the unique shape of the snail shell, it has not been found to be able to cultivate a pearl without harming the life of the snail. The Conch Pearl differs from other pearls because it has no nacreous substance in its development. The pearl will often have the look of flames in the appearance of the pearl. The flame-like pattern is very unusual and makes this type of pearl very popular with designers that use unusual and unique gems. The primary colour that you can find the Conch Pearl in is pink and shades of pink. Some of the gems can also come in whites, purples, gold, oranges, browns, and yellows. Many of these particular pearls can be found off the coast of Florida and the West Indies of the Caribbean Sea. The Conch shell is often harvested for the white meat that many chefs around the world desire to make exotic dishes. The pearl is often a bonus to the harvesting of the meat.
