Fix Your Drivers Problems And Make Your Pc Faster    Submitted as: louisaschmalz
A device driver is a specific program that controls and runs a particular device in a computer for personal or business use. It is essentially a program that offers a connecting link between general software and specific software or hardware applications. Drivers are needed for scanners, printers, CD-ROM readers and much more. Several of the drivers come inbuilt when you buy an operating system. But it should be noted that to run any kind of new device that is not recognized by the operating system you would need a new device driver. Sometimes you may have noticed that either a specific hardware or device isn't functioning properly or the computer is having problems in recognizing it. In such times, make sure you have the right device driver in the right place to solve your problem and to make it convenient for the hardware to work in compatibility with the computer. Technical Role Of Device Drivers Every device needs its own specific specialized commands and instructions to function properly. The device-driver takes in the general high-level commands and splits them into a chain of device-specific low-level commands and enables the proper functioning of the device or the hardware application. Without correct drivers, no hardware and software application will run appropriately and smoothly. So always make sure you have an updated version of a driver for your external devices. Development Of Device Drivers In order to develop or write a device driver, one must have complete and in-depth knowledge of the correct functionality of hardware and software applications. Drivers need a highly specialized environment to work properly and can prove to be a bit dangerous if things get wrong. Individuals and organizations with complete information about the hardware design should only try to write drivers. That is why, mostly it is seen that only operating system vendors and device vendors develop drivers. Applications Drivers interface with various applications, such as video adopters to display images and video, digital cameras, sound cards for better sound quality, computer storage devices and image scanners. Furthermore, it enables smooth functioning of joystick, tablet, camera, modem, fax, network cards and LaserWriter. Special Features Offered By Windows In Regards To Drivers Windows Vista features an array of device drivers for several components, such as storage controllers, display adopters and sound cards. Additionally, it provides vista drivers for external devices that include keyboards, digital cameras and removable storage devices. Windows XP offers a unique ability to abandon a newer device driver in favor of the earlier one if a driver upgrade is not producing the sought-after and desired results. This phenomenon is known as driver rollback. Virtual Device Drivers Virtual device drivers (VDD) represent a specific variation of drivers and are used to simulate a hardware device. VDDs offer an illusion of accessing actual hardware to guest operating systems and its drivers running inside a virtual machine. They can also function in a non-virtualized environment. Driver Download Options A range of device driver options is available. People can download CDROM drivers, usb drivers, camera drivers, sound card drivers, video drivers, network card drivers, network drivers, mouse drivers and tablet drivers. Additionally, scanner drivers, HP Drivers, printer drivers, modem drivers and fax drivers can be downloaded. So make sure that you have the correct and appropriate driver to ensure smooth functioning of your hardware and software applications and to make your faster PC faster and better.(read entire article)
