It is here that the ill-fated Bluebird K7 achieved a top speed of 320 miles per hour in 1966 before crashing and killing its driver, Donald Campbell. Derwentwater Derwentwater is so named because it is both fed and drained by the river Derwent. The lake has a length of three miles, a width of one mile and it is around 72 feet deep.
