To format a research paper effectively, first of all you should use good quality paper with proper margins and headings. There should be a title page at the beginning, and this title page should conform to the standards of the writing style used. Following that, there should be a table of contents as well which shows the page numbers where each section begins. There should be one space left after words, colons, semicolons, commas, fullstops; and double spacing between each line. The pages should also be numbered consecutively preferably on the top right side of the paper. Capital letters should be used with care only for headings, start of sentences or for grammatical purposes only.
