This special issue therefore concentrates on a number of specific ethical dilemmas. These pertain to the traveller's ethical and narrative stance, to her or his gender, to the quest for originality (and its attendant anxieties), to multiple relationships to power, strategies of cross-cultural representation, and (often troubled and troubling) relationships to dominant discourses about the places being visited.
