In China, Mother's Day is becoming more popular, and carnations are a excessively popular gift and the most sold type of flower. North America celebrates Mother's Day on the second Sunday in May (May 10 in 2009). In most countries, Mother's Day is a recent observance derived from the holiday as it has evolved in North America and Europe.
