If you love your digital camera then you must be always worried with the error messages that say Memory Card Locked and Memory Card Error. But mentioned here are some quick fixes that will surely ease your photography experience:
Situation 1
So, you purchased a new SD card and your camera is old now? You bought a new 4 GB SDHC card? Well, SDHC cards look just like the standard SD cards, but the format this card uses is quite different. However, it is important to note that your older camera was designed before the SDHC format was introduced. SDHC is not going to work with your camera and this can be checked on the camera company website. You have to use standard SD cards only (usually with 2GB or less memory). If you want a 4GB card, then search for 4GB SD non HC with non HC in quotes, you might be lucky enough to get it.
Situation 2
If you were using a card for a while and it has suddenly started showing the memory card error, then try to figure out whether you ever formatted your card in the camera. If not, then this is problem. An unformatted card initially works fine in a camera, but eventually will ...
... corrupt with time, especially after many files have been saved and deleted. Formatting the card in camera will surely correct this problem. Make sure formatting will erase everything in your card, so perform formatting only after you have recovered and saved your computer photos from the card.
Situation 3
Make sure that you have not accidentally placed the tiny locking slide switch on the side of your SD card in the locked downward position. The correct unlocked position should be slid up towards the direction of the connectors.
Situation 4
If you have already tried the above issue and it is still showing locked, then it might be quite possible that the locking switch inside the camera's card slot is stuck. If you check the slot on the side of the slot where SD card slide switch would be, you'll see a golden glint on the side. This is the camera's lock/unlock switch. Ignore the other golden glints that you might notice at the far end of slot which are reader's connectors.
If you find that the locking switch is somehow making contact and is stuck on the locked position. Gently push against this switch with a plastic toothpick or other skinny non-metallic item, and see whether you can jar open the contact to its normal unlocked position. Try blowing compressed air at it, to clear any gunk that might have jammed it. Reinsert the SD card to see if the issue has been corrected.
If your tries fail repeatedly, it may be the time to consider, opening the camera to open this switch forcefully (not recommended until you have enough knowledge of electronics).
All these situations might leave you in disgust and result in loss of important photos. If in case you ever lose on important photos from your memory card, then perform memory card recovery, with a third party digital media data recovery tool. These tools will help you get back the data without worrying about corruption or loss of data loss anymore. Memory card recovery is quite easy with the software, as these are devised specially to deal with corruption or data loss issues in memory cards like flash cards, SD cards, micro SD cards etc.
