Kununurra is a birdwatcher and wildlife watchers dream! Brimming with wildlife from tiny finches to prehistoric crocodiles. The town of Kununurra was built in the 1960’s near the Ord River for its irrigation potential, it is nestled around the stunning Lily Creek Lagoon which feeds off the year roundflowing Ord River. The proximity of town to this beautiful water course provides plenty of opportunity for interaction with wildlife, and there is a lot of wildlife that can be viewed straight from the doorstep of your accommodation in Kununurra. It is not uncommon to drive down the Victoria Hwy and spot a freshwater croc in the lagoon, or a crimson finch in the cumbungi grass surrounding the water. Kimberleyland Waterfront Holiday Park is the next park on your right if driving in to town from the South. It’s also situated waterfront as its name suggests, however it is on the banks of the Lily Creek Lagoon. Sunsets here are beautiful. There is a friendly Jabiru and freshwater Crocodile that often squabble over fish.

Freshwater East Kimberley Apartments is the newest accommodation in Kununurra and is just across the road from Kimberleyland facing the Celebrity Tree Park and Lily Creek Lagoon. The grounds here are gorgeous and attract an array of wildlife. Native plants and grasses invite Crimson Finches, Mannikins, Double Bar Finches, Zebra Finches, Dragons and more. A pond that rambles through the property is even home to a couple of Barramundi and on one occasion a small freshwater crocodile.
The Kimberley Grande just next door to Freshwater East Kimberley Apartments is also ideally positioned across the road from Celebrity Tree Park and the Lily Creek Lagoon.
As its name suggests, Lakeview Apartments has beautiful views to Lily Creek Lagoon. The walkway just across the road is popular with tourists and locals. Early morning offers the best birdwatching in this area.
Around the corner, in the suburb of Lakeside is the Lakeside Resort and Caravan Park. This Kununurra accommodation property also boasts water frontage.
