Common Reasons For Computer Hard Drive Data Loss
The data that we store in our computers are saved on the hard drive.
With time, the drive can undergo the typical wear and tear, rendering it susceptible to malfunction and failure (like any fast paced parts employed for months as well as years).
Let's examine some traditional factors behind lost data
Hardware problem or physical damage to the hard drive. One of the very common factors behind data loss is a hardware problem. The hard disk drive can suffer from bad sectors, which is often physically damaged. Once damaged, the needle, which reads the hard disk drive, cannot read these bad sectors. Physical damage such as trauma on the drive also can cause lost data. The moment the drive no longer opens or boots, then the data cannot be read, resulting in massive loss unless recovered. Physical damages can occur once you drop the hard disk drive, or spill water or any liquid in it.
Power outage or interruption. The computer has two types of memory - the Random Access Memory (RAM), which stores the temporary data, and the drive, which stores the permanent or saved data. In cases of power interruption or ...
... power outage, the data in the temporary memory or RAM is generally lost. In severe cases, however, even the saved data in the hard disk drive can be corrupted or lost upon a power interruption. The corruption or lack of the file may be because of the interrupted proper reading of data from the drive to the RAM. Besides power interruption, extreme heat also can cause the computer to turn off, that may also lead to lost data. Improper shutdowns also can cause loss for exactly the same reason stated above.
Improper ejection of removable devices (USB drives, etc.) - Improper ejection also can cause data loss. The unit might still be reading the data when an individual abruptly removes or ejects the drive, similar to if you have an immediate power outage or interruption. This is the reason why you need to always safely eject your external drives.
Computer viruses. There are always a lot of computer viruses that will infect the computer and cause data loss. Downloading files from the internet can expose your computer to viruses and malware. The Trojan virus attacks the data in the computer drive, making this susceptible to hackers and other viruses. Viruses like this may cause lost data/data too.
Bad programming - A programmer encodes human instruction in a language that is readable by the computer system. In cases when a programmer commits logical mistakes or erroneously executes a course, it could delete existing files in the computer. Logical errors by the programmer also can sometime cause lost data.
