The Burj Khalifa, Dubai is the first hotel in the world to be described as a 7-Star hotel, which in 1998 opened up a whole new panoramic view to hotels and their ratings. While we come back to that, the concept of rating hotels was brought out mainly to classify the standard of it under the criteria of food services, entertainment, view, room variations such as size and additional amenities, spas and fitness centres, ease of access and location. Rating a hotel rests heavily on the facilities that it provides which in turn is a bad marker for smaller businesses. They might have luxurious rooms but due to the lack of facilities like an elevator or a banquet hall will not hamper higher categorization.

The classification of hotel ratings includes the Star rating and the Letter grading; A to F for hotels and motels. All these certificates talking about Deluxe/Luxury, First Class/Superior, Tourist Class/Standard, and Budget Class/Economy point to the type of hotel rather than its standard. Most of the European countries follow a standardised format for classifying the hotels, as these countries have written laws directing how ...
... the segregation has to be defined. The German classifications which is accepted in multiple developed countries are Tourist (*), Standard (**), Comfort (***), First Class (****) and Luxury (*****), with the mark "Superior" to flag extras beyond the minimum defined in the standard, but not enough to move the hotel up to the next tier ranking.

Now that the basic of rating a hotel is cleared off the table, let us look into how the 7-Star rating works. The Burj Khalifa is one of the handful hotels in the world where they are described as 7-Star rated destinations. To bring light into this classification the hotel authorities have themselves explained that the title was given to them by an unnamed British journalist. Neither are they encouraging the title nor advertising it anywhere, purely being against their principles. Still, the hotel is deemed under that classification because of the pure intensity of the luxury and Royale waiting for you as soon as you check in. Unfortunately, the facilities available for you are still rated under the 5-Star rating programme. Thus, debunking the myth of 7-Star hotels and all the additional glitter and jazz around it.
