Touch screen phones are all the rage just now, but if you cannot afford one of the flagship models such as the Samsung Omnia Pro or the HTC Hero, then you might want to consider the Samsung Genio, which was originally intended for children but contains enough advanced features to get adults hooked as well.

The features of the Genio include a touch screen, widgets for sites such as YouTube and Myspace, a 2 megapixel camera, a web browser, and an FM radio.

The display is not nearly as crisp or vibrant as you might find on more expensive touch screen phones, such as Samsungs own Omnia Pro or the HTC Hero, The screen is 2.8 inches wide with a resolution of 320 by 240, which is quite blocky in comparison to some other phones and reduces the visual impact of things like video clips and web surfing.

Although the interface is a little jerky, the phone at least lets you know when you have made contact with the screen by giving you a slight vibrational buzz every time you touch it.

The interface is certainly very well thought out and intuitive, with the icons large enough to be dragged by a fingertip. The widgets ...
... are easy to use, and can be accessed simply by dragging them from the side of the screen into the middle.

The phone itself feels quite flimsy, and although some may see its light weight and slim profile as plus points, it doesn''t feel like it would survive being dropped more than a couple of times.

Call quality is on the whole excellent, although the shape of the handset makes it rather uncomfortable to hold up against your ear for long periods, although a hands free kit is included.

Web browsing is painfully slow, as there is no support for 3G or WiFi networks, which makes the included web browser seem something of a white elephant. Also, the lack of GPS means that you cannot use it as a navigation device. If you are looking for a phone with full smartphone functionality, you would be better looking elsewhere.
