Chicago is coy about its own greatness. This huge city should by no means be runner up to New York. It has an appeal all of its own and despite its large size it remains friendly and welcoming.

This Midwestern city on the banks of beautiful Lake Michigan is home to blues, skyscrapers and good food. The city''s has also played a starring role in American history from gangsters to railroads and architecture to sport. This colourful history and diverse ethnic mix make Chicago one of America''s greatest cities.

Chicago''s has three out of five of America'' tallest buildings and it has earned the title of the world''s tallest skyline. Sears Tower which is one of the tallest in the world at 1451 ft is probably its most iconic. The best place to admire this view is from the other side of Lake Michigan by the Adler Planetarium.

But the awesome architecture doesn''t just stop with the skyscrapers. The award-winning Millennium Park, on Michigan Avenue has an interesting selection of design features from the state-of-the-art outdoor concert venue to the futuristic-looking Cloud Gate, so your camera will be working ...

If you have a large appetite for culture then Chicago is sure to please. It has the Art Institute of Chicago boasting a fine collection of art including a well-rounded selection of Impressionism and the Field Museum of Natural History which specialises in interactive exhibits so is great for children.

The Museum of Science and Industry is Chicago''s most popular attraction and does justice to the cities importance as a centre of industry and transport without being dry and boring.

Over the years, Chicago has quietly been cultivating a reputation as the culinary capital of the US. Although it has fine-dining down to a T, real delights come in the form of hot dogs and deep-pan pizza, invented here in the 1940s. Blues has a long history in Chicago and the best place to get acquainted with it is at the Willie Dixon''s Blues Heaven Foundation. However, the scene is still thriving today all across the city.
