The Blue Mountains

The Blue Mountains are blue because there is a distinctive blue haze in the area. The color intensity can vary from day to day, however the blue haze is always present. There are many eucalyptus trees in the area. Droplets of eucalyptus oil from the eucalyptus trees, dispersed into the atmosphere, make the blue haze.

There are two ways of travelling to the Blue Mountains by train. One alternative is to travel on a suburban train to Penrith. From Penrith you can catch a Blue Mountains train to complete your journey. Penrith is a pretty town and worth looking at on your way to the Blue Mountains.

A visit to "Panthers" club is an ideal outing while you are in Penrith. "Panthers" club provides you with a choice of a number of restaurants for either a snack or a main meal. "Panthers" is a gambling venue, so you can enjoy a little time spent playing the slot machines.

The second method of travelling to the Blue Mountains is to catch a train from the Country Terminal at Central Railway station. The country train will take you directly to the Blue Mountains. From ...
... Penrith to Katoomba, you will leave the suburbs behind and the train trip is very scenic. Alight at Katoomba for the start of your mountains daytrip.

Visit Echo Point

The more daring tourist can take a ride on the very steep, 400-metre railway track at Echo Point. This railway drops 250 metres down a cliff wall.

Travel on the Tourist Bus

Take a guided tour of the Blue Mountains region. A tourist bus leaves from Katoomba railway station, takes you on a scenic tour of the area and returns you to the railway station.
