10 Tips To Take Care Of Your Skin If You Have Diabetes
If you have diabetes, you must have noticed that your skin is prone to dryness. High sugar levels means lower body fluids causing dry and itchy skin which can be susceptible to infections. At the same time, diabetes caused nerve damage can mess up sweat glands and the body’s natural moisturising system. It therefore becomes important to pay special attention to your skin and take care to avoid skin problems.
Keep your diabetes under control. The best and easiest way is to keep your sugar levels within limits by following your recommended diet and exercise plan.
Keep skin clean and dry. Use warm water and a mild soap when bathing. Make sure to properly dry all parts of the body to avoid fungal infection.
Avoid bathing with very hot water or taking long baths. They have a tendency to dry your skin further.
Look out for red or sore spots on your body. Visit a doctor immediately if you find any.
Keep your skin well moisturized at all times. Keep lotion bottles handy so they are accessible easily.
Treat any cuts right away using a mild antiseptic. Don’t neglect any issue with your ...
... skin.
Drink lots of fluids, especially water. It will help with keeping your skin hydrated..
Cover up. Try to minimize skin exposure to minimize any risks of wounds or infection.
Try and wear natural fibers like cotton which will let your skin breathe. Avoid synthetic materials and constricting clothes or anything that can irritate the skin.
Eat foods rich in Omega 3, Vitamin E which will nourish your skin and keep it healthy.
It might not seem as dangerous as some of the other complications you can develop if you have diabetes, but dry, irritable or infected skin can be quite painful on a daily basis. A good skin care regimen will go a long way in helping prevent problems in the long run. Make sure you have yours in place!
