If you are working on Windows Vista, then your must be familiar with Disk Quota Limit feature. Actually, ‘Hard Disk Drive Space Quota' feature in MS Windows Vista provides you with the privilege of setting up the upper limits of storage space usage for user accounts. This outstanding feature of MS Windows Vista is really helpful and useful when you have several users accessing the same computer and you need to restrict hard drive space for the users.

Whenever the set maximum limit of allocated user space exceeds, you start getting number of warning messages; rather it gives you a denial message. Using this Disk Quota feature may land you up in troublesome situations sometimes. As in some cases this process may cause damage to your system and results into partition loss. Right-click the Windows drive on which you need to configure the disk quota and then select Properties.

Click Quota tab and select Show Quota Settings.

Click the Enable Quota Management check box to select it.

Click the Deny disk space to users exceeding quota limit check box to select it if you wish to purely enforce the storage limit.

Select the Limit disk space to and enter the amount. Always change KB to GB.

You should give Set warning level to any value under quota limit.

Click OK button for enabling the disk quotas on particular hard drive.

No doubt there are advantages to implementing the disk quota limit but it's recommended not to practice it as it may lead to serious data loss situations and software malfunction. In such situations, you are supposed to consider data recovery program to get back the lost data.
