Forget What You Think You Know About Ibiza
In the less than pleasant winter months, it''s probably a good idea to find some way of getting through to the other side. The snows of this past December and January may have been fun for a brief while, but they drove home the fact that we are just coming out of the coldest winter on record for decades.
Even though the summer feels pretty far away at the moment, we can still look forward to the long months of good weather ahead. And making plans for the summer getaway which will put memories of frosty weather behind you is perhaps the best way of ignoring the bitter cold.
If it''s heat and beaches you''re looking for, then Spain is an ideal destination for a summer break. But if avoiding the vast tourist crowds which throng the Costa del Sol et al is important to you, it would perhaps be better to look a little bit off the beaten track, perhaps trying out a place like Ibiza.
You may have already made up your mind about what a holiday on the small island off the Spanish coast would entail, but whilst it deserves its reputation as a summer party centre, Ibiza can offer a lot more than just a good nightlife.
Clubbing ...
... aside, Ibiza is in fact a very calm and beautiful part of the world. It is not widely known, for instance, that a large proportion of it is registered as a UN World Heritage Site, keeping it free from the potential damage that real estate merchants might inflict upon it. Aside from the fantastic landscape and wildlife which the island boasts, Christopher Columbus is purported to have born there (among other places), and there is a monument, known as The Egg, which pays tribute to the explorer.
Additionally, if you''re a fan of good nightlife, then you''ve come to the right place. Every summer, both the island''s capital (Ibiza Town) and Sant Antoni boast the most prestigious and coveted DJs in the world, and household names usually take up residences at the various world-famous clubs. In short, you can rest assured that the kinds of line ups you''ll see will make your experience the envy of friends and colleagues, without a doubt.
Ibiza Airport, being small, is often a fairly hectic and overrun place, and you would do well to sort out your hotel and car rental arrangements before arriving; furthermore, ensuring you have hired a vehicle before arrival will prove to be cheaper than doing it on the day.
This is probably the most stressful element of visiting Ibiza, however, and practically everything else provides you with opportunities to relax and/or party. It is a perfect holiday destination, a dream island where you can put your feet up or slip on your dancing shoes as the mood takes you.
