The Trench Coats You Need To Try
When there is a “trench coat” talk almost everyone is thinking about a staple classic that has remained unchanged for the past few decades. Some consider it a must-have; others treat it as a boring piece for older men. But actually this is a truly versatile and indispensable item of a men’s wardrobe if you know how to make it work.
Let’s start with the most common color of trench coats – beige. An example of such is the iconic Burberry coat which is recognizable from the first glance. This time proven garment is made of dense waterproof gabardine and can keep you dry and warm during the roughest rains. At the same time the fabric is light in weight and very comfortable to wear. To add even more style don’t pass on the signature details of this men’s overcoat – epaulettes, wide double-breasted collar, rain flaps and a belt.
If you are bored with wearing your trench coats beige and looking forward to making a statement with your overcoat, go for more high-fashion designs. The easiest way to do so is to swap the color for something brighter, e.g. burgundy or bright blue. This season cobalt is the ...
... most popular color for men’s wool overcoats (UK runways showcased them in almost every collection). When you go for such style it means that your coat is no longer a purely functional piece of clothing for you but a way to state your stylish presence.
Still there are sometimes occasions when you need to be more hued down, either because of the dress code in your office or just because a bright overcoat is too much for you. Then it makes sense to find a more traditional yet versatile men’s trench coat that will be of service for long time. Such pieces make a good background for experimenting with the clothes underneath. A black coat and a dark suit can be easily spiced up by a bright tie or just a kerchief in the chest pocket. Some style setters go even further and match their trenches with joggers and high fashion urban sneakers.
Another way to turn your coat to a more casual side is to wear it cropped. Knee length is not always the most comfortable under the conditions of fast city life. Trench coats today can be as short as mid-thigh. Though you need to be careful not to have too much excessive detailing; there is less fabric and therefore less space for experimenting.
