Toys Of The Generations!-00-5313
In the 1920's popular toys, which some of are still around today, were teddy bears, raggedy Ann dolls, crayola crayons Ruben variety which were washable and yo-yo's, the yo-yo was wooden.
In the 30's it was the 3D view master, The board games, Monopoly, Sorry and Scrabble were invented in the later part of the 30's. Super hero comics also came into existence.
The 40's brought more board games such as chutes and ladders, candy land and clue. Silly putty was created by accident but was a big hit. Silly putty was made by an engineer trying to make synthetic rubber. Tonka trucks had their birth.
In the 50's Mister Potato head had his start, and it was a very good one as he was the first advertisement on television that wasn't a cigarette or cleaning advertisement. The hula hoop which was started out in Australia and made of bamboo, and was made for exercise. The Frisbee, Barbie dolls and Ant farms also made their debut in the 50's.
The 60's brought the easy bake oven, etch-a-sketch, the board games Operation and Twister and the GI Joe doll, which was made and geared towards young boys.
In ...
... the 70's The Rubik's cube was invented, it was invented by a Hungarian mathematician to aid in the teachings of math to his students. (To the rest of the world it was invented to drive us crazy for hours).Skateboards, Crissy and velvet dolls, whose hair would grown, and matchbox cars.
The 1980's introduced the cabbage patch dolls, the craze of the 80's the dolls that came with real birth certificates, action hero dolls of the transformers and teenage ninja turtles and the first Nintendo (after Atari flopped out).
The 90's brought Roller blades, beanie babies, tickle me Elmo's which are still kicking today, and the hand held Nintendo game boy.
I loved the game boy; it was the best thing in the world for parents going on vacation or any ride in a car that was more than an hour long with their children, it kept my kids quiet for hours. It stopped the; are we there yet, how long before we stop to eat and I have to go to the bathroom just because they saw a sign that said restrooms. I even took my son to meetings with me and he sat there with the volume down playing Nintendo game boy. It was worth every dime I spent on it.
Even though my children are grown I still have trivial pursuit and Scrabble in my closet along with a few other games that we break out with on Holidays or just days that were sitting around visiting.
My girls were always happier when they were talking on the phone or hanging out with their friends but my son spent many hours with video games and skate boarding. My mother when we visit her still likes to get out the yahtzee game and play it.
There were lots of happy times sitting at the table playing games or playing video games with my kids. I think my son might still try to cheat at games sometimes but I think every boy does that in his life. We just started buying board games and puzzles for my grandson and he's also started playing video games. A whole generation later the people change but the games are the same just made from cheaper materials.
