A candidate seeking admission to a program ...
... of study for the engineering degree courses must have cleared 12th grade (+2) with a minimum of 45% in physics, chemistry , mathematics and English, or must be a diploma holder (3 years). A diploma holder has the privilege to seek a discipline different from his diploma degree.

Examinations
Mechanical Engineering
The examinations for any of the courses are conducted in semester pattern, twice a year.
Examinations are tentatively planned in the month of June and December.
The results are tentatively announced in MAR of December examination and in SEP of June examination.
Candidates are to fill in the exam forms till 15 APRIL for June Exam and 15 OCT for December exam.
No examination form will be accepted without the prescribed examination fee.
A candidate cannot appear in more than 5 subjects in a particular semester
Other fee as prescribed by IME(I) from time to time will be applicable to all the concerned.
Civil and Architectural Engineering
The examinations for any of the courses are conducted in semester pattern, twice a year.
Examinations are tentatively planned in the month of June and December.
The results are tentatively announced in March of December examination and in September of June examination.
Candidates are to fill in the exam forms till 15 May for June Exam and 15 November for December exam.
No examination form will be accepted without the prescribed examination fee.
A candidate cannot appear in more than 4 subjects in a particular semester
Other fee as prescribed by ICE(I) from time to time will be applicable to all the concerned.
The Institution of Mechanical Engineers (India) is one of the oldest professional institutions in India established in 1914 to promote, advance and update knowledge, business & practice of mechanical engineering professionals.
Among the activities it conducts biannual examinations known as Technician Engineers Part-I & Part-II, Automobile Technician Engineers examination Part-I & Part-II, Production Technician Engineers Part-I & Part-II, Refrigeration & Air-Conditioning Technician Engineers Examination Part-I & Part-II and Section A & Section B of Associate Membership (also known as Chartered Engineers) Examination in Mechanical Engineering.
The Institution is thus helping thousands of younger members of community working in engineering to obtain engineering qualification & also to advance their technical knowledge & enhance their engineering career but, who have been unfortunate in securing admission in regular Polytechnics and Engineering Colleges due to no fault of their through non formal system of education.

Professional Activities
The Institution is the oldest professional Institution in the country whose past Presidents have been Engineers of eminence - Shri S.K. Kirloskar, UV.Modak, Fakirji Bharucha to mention just a few. The Institution regularly organizes technical lecture meetings, Symposia, seminars and workshops. Intensive tutorials and workshop visit for the benefit of its members. The Institution has instituted various Gold & Silver Prizes to honour the contributions of eminent men in engineering sciences and technology.
Membership
The Institution offers two classes of membership, one the Corporate Class and the other Non-Corporate Class. It also offers membership to industrial establishments, called Institutional Membership and Patron Membership.
The Corporate Class of Membership consists of:

THE NON-CORPORATE CLASS, PF MEMBERSHIP CONSISTS OF Technician, Companion, and Student
Admission to Corporate Class of Membership
To be eligible for admission to Corporate Class of membership, a candidate must be mechanical engineer possessing a degree in mechanical engineering or must pass Section A and B Examinations of the Institution in addition to 2 years experience in mechanical engineering profession in responsible position.
Admission to Non-Corporate Class of Membership
Any person having good scientific education (minimum 10th pass) and engaged in mechanical engineering profession is eligible for admission to this class of membership
International Co-Operation
IME India has signed Memorandum of Understanding with:
American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Institution of Mechanical Engineers (UK)
Japan Society of Mechanical Engineers (JSME)
Chinese Mechanical Engineering Society (CMES) for mutual co-operation and continuous interaction.
Civil Engineering profession, although is the oldest profession did not have a Society of its own in India unlike other engineering disciplines. To fill this vacuum and to improve and establish the standards of Civil Engineering & Architectural Engineering profession the ICE (I) was formed. The ICE (I) is registered under Societies Registration Act 1860.
The ICE (I) is committed to support and promote professional learning (both for students and for existing practitioners), managing professional ethics and safeguarding the status of Engineers, Architects and representing the interest of the respective profession in dealing with the Government and various other sectors of the Society. The Institution of Civil Engineers (India) is the only Institution of its kind in India which provides avenues for quality education in Civil Engineering/Architectural Engineering disciplines in particular.
The Institution of Civil Engineers (India) conducts the Degree and Diploma level examination in Civil Engineering & Architectural Engineering twice a year for those, who for various reasons, could not fulfill their ambition to become Degree or Diploma Engineers but had to take up employment at lower level. They want to upgrade their educational qualification and improve their employment status.
