According to the experts, the abrupt climatic changes started to happen after the onset of the industrial revolution. Any small change in the climate leads to potentially dangerous shifts in the temperature. The changes in temperatures cause adverse effects around the world. Due to the climate change, the probability of disasters to occur has increased. It also leads to sudden floods in the areas where there were no chances of floods to happen before and unexpected droughts in the areas where it never happened before.

It has been said that the pollution has no boundaries. It travels boundaryless and affects the whole world. There are different kinds of nations in the world. Some are under-developed, some are developing, and some are developed countries. It is an apparent fact that the developed countries are more economically powerful and have contributed the maximum to the environmental damage since the beginning of the industrial revolution.

Solution to the Environmental Problems:

The only solution lies in realizing the need to work in collaboration with each other to reduce the adverse effect of climate ...
... change. At the Paris Conference that was held between the Conference of Parties under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), the purpose of concern had been expressed that is to bring down the temperature well below 2-degree Celsius above pre-industrial levels and to put in efforts to limit the temperature increase to 1.5-degree Celsius.

Problems Occurring:

The main problem that comes in between executing the recognized task is the issue of varied responsibility of different countries. The developing nations have argued that the developed countries had contributed the maximum to the environmental degradation since industrial era. Therefore, they must take greater responsibility towards balancing the environment. While the developed nations have argued that the developing nations are presently equal participants in downgrading the environments. In the end, through mutual consensus, it was decided to set the targets to reduce the carbon emission by the countries by Common but differentiated responsibilities principle.

Present scenario:

India has to meet the goal of replacing non-renewable energy by renewable energy. India has set the target for the installation of 1.75 GW of renewable energy by 2022 which seems to be too ambitious. To complete the objectives, it is important to engage multiple institutions in green energy development so that the energy needs of the countrymen can be met easily alongside replacing the non-renewable sources. The premier institutions have a significant role to play in this area. For instance, IIT-Kharagpur has taken the initiative to lead a UK-India Joint virtual centre in clean energy.

IIT Kharagpur Energy Framework:

IIT Kharagpur will work in the areas related to Solar Photovoltaic systems, power network and storage. The primary purpose here will be to promote an integration of solar energy for on and off grids. They will also target the remote, isolated areas of the country where there is the shortage of power and are not connected to the national grid.

Recently, the President of United States has taken back the commitment for the targets to be achieved and again approved for the reliability of carbon energy sources. But being a global responsible nation, India will continue to strive for meeting the green energy targets for which the institutions like IIT Kharagpur will play a vital role.
