Indian Textile Industry is one of the oldest industry in the history of India. The Textiles were being exported from India to the other areas of the world especially in the medieval Europe since the 17th century. Under the British rule, the India textile industry had seen the worst time. The Britishers had made some policy changes which resulted in the downfall of the Indian Textile Industry. They had increased the tax on exports of the finished textiles goods from India and rather drained the raw cotton from India and in return flooded the Indian markets with the machine made finished goods imported from the Britain. The condition of the textile industry got worse after the partition of India in 1947 when the bulk area of cotton cultivation went to the Pakistan.

The mill sector after the partition was forced to rely on imports. The Indian Textile sector only got revived when the industrial revolution reached India. With the use of Textile Engineering, the mechanization process got updated, and with the passage of time, more advanced technologies ...
... were introduced. After the evolution of our own land, the textile industry had become ever growing. The Textile industry in India contributes a significant part in the country's Gross Domestic Product (GDP). It contributes around 5 percent to the GDP, and its market size is expected to reach $ 223 billion by 2021.

But still, a lot more needs to be done in the textile sector. Unlike other major exporting countries of textiles, Indian textile industry is still largely dispersed and unorganized. The industry is suffering from technological fallback. Some industrialist imported the better machines for the production of textiles, but it did not make any difference in the overall growth of the industry. The government had tried to give a technological boost to the industry by introducing various schemes, but it does not result in providing any Philip to the growth of Textile Engineering Industry. The solution to the problem lies in the application of advanced technologies which left a lot of scope to the aspirants who want to pursue a career in Textile Engineering.

Nowadays, the institutions that offer a B.Tech degree in the Textile Engineering are putting extraordinary efforts to imbibe the best education to their students that are not just theoretical in approach but also lays emphasis on the practical applications. They are introducing various seminars, internships, and workshops so that the students can get hands-on experiences with the latest technologies related to Textile Engineering.

Some of the best institutes in India that offer Textile Engineering course are:

IIT, Kanpur
IIT, Madras
IIT, Kharagpur
IIT-BHU
IIT, Roorkee
IIT, Delhi
Manipal University
VIT Vellore
BITS, Pilani

While studying for Textile Engineering, the student will get to learn about the laws, scientific techniques, and principles used in manufacturing industry.
There are different variants in which a student can do an engineering:

Fabrication Technology
Carpet and Textile Technology
Man Made Fiber Technology
Textile Chemistry

A student can also do a specialization after completing the undergraduate course in the Textile Engineering. Various companies like Reliance, Bombay Dyeing, Raymond and much more. Modernization is a continuous process which needs the concrete efforts. The young technocrats own the responsibility to take the Textile Industry to a new level because, without their expertized knowledge, the industry will remain in the dark.
