How To Treat Gum Disease?
Gum disease is an infection of the mouth caused by the adhesion of thick layers of bacteria on the gums and teeth. To overcome gum disease, the first thing to do is to identify the type of illness. If you have swollen gums or you see bleeding in the sink when you brush, you may have gingivitis. If you do not treat it and suffer severe damage to the gums and bones, the disease could worsen and become an advanced periodontitis. Either way, you will have to commit to a new routine to fix it: incorporate brushing, flossing and rinsing habits.
Periodontal diseases or gum disease include gingivitis and periodontitis. From painful gums to loosening, they affect nearly 80% of adults. How to respond to these pathologies?
If we can speak of healing for gingivitis, in the case of periodontitis, only stabilization can be achieved at present. A good reason to play the prevention card.
Prevention in the spotlight
Teeth Before any treatment of the gums, it is necessary to set up a real dental hygiene. Without it, the scarring will not be satisfactory and the treatments will then be ineffective. Dental hygiene consists ...
... of brushing twice a day for at least three minutes. Experts recommend using a soft toothbrush (not to hurt the gums further) and completing the whole by the use of wire or interdental brushes.
The susceptibility to this disease increases when we consume lots of sugar, if we smoke, diabetes, other diseases like AIDS, treatments for cancer and hundreds of medications can promote and worsen this condition.
1. Give your mouth a better routine
Gum disease develops mainly when we reduce the level of our oral care. If the gum disease is in an initial state, the solution is only to improve the routine to clean the dirt. Brushing after meals, flossing and gargling with an antiseptic mouthwash twice a day can stop gingivitis in its infancy. You also schedule regular checkups with the dentist, since if the plaque becomes tartar, it can only be removed with professional cleanings. Gum disease in the initial state can be prevented by taking action quickly.
2. Perform deep cleaning
If you adopt better oral health routines and fail to alleviate the symptoms of gum disease, you probably have a more advanced infection that has a dark, hard-to-reach bacterial space around the base of your teeth. A thorough cleaning by a dentist or periodontist every six months is the best way to remove tartar from your mouth.
3. Look for pharmacological reinforcements
If problems persist, they may prescribe antibiotics to eradicate the germs that cause the infection in your oral cavity, from topical gels to spread between gum and teeth to antibiotic rinses.
4. Leave everything in the hands of experts
To treat the more advanced forms of gum disease, the dentist may recommend one of the several types of gum surgery, or even a combination of them, to eliminate dark bacterial space and inflammation. Options include flap surgery (in which the gums are removed from the teeth, the tartar is eliminated, and the gums are re-sutured around the tooth);
Soft tissue grafts (replacing eroded gums to cover exposed roots); Bone grafts (to replace the bone with grafts of humans or animals and even with artificial material);
And tissue regeneration (to try to make the lost bone grow back).
These interventions are as complicated as they seem, so it is best to avoid them whenever you can.
