“she” In The “he” World

When there is something is made or created especially for you, only you, everyone feels happy about that attention. On our birthdays we enjoy that love & attention for that entire day. Women on the other hand enjoy that love a day extra than men. 8th March being celebrated as International Women’s Day worldwide lets every women feel special on this day. This day is celebrated and dedicated to all the women in the world as a conscious effort to appreciate, respect & shower some love on these beings.
Men being a little jealous think, why is there no Men’s Day? The reason why Women’s Day came into existence was because, back in early 90’s women were facing difficulties & inequalities in every area of interest. Being initiated in America, steadily this day gained importance worldwide as it was back supported by United Nations.
Being women is a great deal, especially in a male dominated world. Being on any part of the globe, women are still considered as second class preferences in terms of work. Especially in a country like India where women Goddesses are worshiped and at the same time women ...
... at home are harassesd and tortured and at work they are considered less smarter than our Macho Men.
To protect women and their rights there are some legal rights made to help them fight back in horrifying situations. Handful of women know their rights and actually exercise them when needed. So this Women’s Day lets spread awareness about these rights & benefits we have so that all women feel blessed & know that the society cares for them. Let’s read through some of important legal rights every woman should know:
Right to Privacy:
When a woman is raped, she has the right to privacy where she can deny recording her statement in public (or police station) & demanding a woman constable to do the needful by interviewing her in private where no one over hears them.
Child Marriage Act, 2006:
The Prohibition of Child Marriage Act was made effective in 2007. This act defines the legal marriageable age for girl to be 18 years & above and for the boy to be 21 years and above. Parents, guardians propelling their children for marriage who fall below the said age are subjected to action against law.
Dowry Prohibition Act, 1961:
Dowry being the most common practice in India is given by the bride’s family to the grooms family at the time of marriage. Women after marriage are harassed and tortured for not being happy with the dowry received, thus making it an illegal act. The government of India has made the dowry system illegal. Families are subject to penalty if found practicing the system.
Right to no arrest:
According to Supreme Court, a woman cannot be arrested after sunset & before sunrise. Even if there are woman constables accompanying the officers, the police cannot arrest a woman at night. In case of serious crimes, the police needs to get it in writing from the magistrate explaining why the arrest is necessary during the night.
Equal Remuneration Act:
This Act prevents the discrimination of remuneration on the basis of gender. It ensures equal compensation for work to both men & women workers. Any women experiencing inequality in the payment system can report this to the legal system & action will be taken immediately.
Maternity Benefits:
It is mandate by law to provide Maternity benefits to women expecting a baby & has worked at least 80 days during the 12months preceding her date of delivery. She is entitled to maternity benefits ie medical allowance, maternity leave & nursing breaks during her pregnancy.
