Cloud containers are the new buzzword in the world of computing. Whereas earlier it was servers, today, with data more or less completely on the cloud, it is important to understand what they are, how they work, why they are important for a business or organization, and which are the best cloud containers out there that you can trust and rely on.

Reasons to have cloud containers

Whether it is a global company like Ebay or Facebook, or a small or medium sized business, there is a need to have data securely and permanently stored somewhere safe, and that is wherethese containers become important. They enable the easy deployment, guaranteed security, and streamlined organization of infrastructure that is vital to a company’s productivity and security. The advantages of these kind of containers are that if anything goes wrong within a container, it will not affect the other containers or the server. This is because cloud containers do not create a boundary at the server level, but at the application level. If there are any compatibility issues between applications on the same operating system, a cloud container ...
... can effectively stop it, thus increasing efficiency.

How to choose the right container

Choosing a cloud container can have a long-ranging impact on the data you have, its security and efficiency, and how different applications interact with each other. This is why it is important to choose the right one based on your requirements. Till now, most of the cloud containers were based on Linux servers, but the world of cloud containers was changed forever with the introduction of Kubernetes into the world.

What is Kubernetes?

Kubernetes is a cloud container platform that was designed and developed exclusively for in-house use by Google. It had been heavily researched and worked upon for more than 15 years before it was decided to release it out into the world to be used as an open source platform. It was also donated to the Foundation of Cloud Native Computing. The combination of all of these factors have made Kubernetes easily the most powerful, efficient, and revolutionary container in the world today.

Why did Google decide to release it as an open source platform?

While the official version of Google’s announcement expressed altruistic motives for this, such as making the world an easier and better place (which it does contribute to) the fact remains that the more developers use Kubernetes as their platform of choice the more Google also benefits by having more people and businesses depend on its cloud computing services, such as the Google App Engine and the Google Compute Engine.

How does Kubernetes help in running businesses?

With the majority of businesses and individuals using the internet today, and migrating to cloud computing platforms without using real-world servers, it has become vitally important to be able to streamline, store, secure, and manage online software without losing track, losing control, or losing security, no matter how complex or huge it gets. With data being the new gold, it is important to have a system where all this is secure and safe while also working harmoniously with other applications and encouraging collaboration. This is where Kubernetes comes in and makes a difference when compared to others cloud container platforms that were used till now.

How and why is Kubernetes different?

With Kubernetes, businesses can run their cloud computing on even other cloud services, not just on Google’s cloud services (for example, on Rackspace or Amazon). They can also use it in data centers that are private, so it is far more versatile and flexible. It helps synchronize many different computers and streamline and organize them to work as a single machine, making it more powerful while remaining secure as well.

Kubernetes also helps to optimize the computing power of individual machines, making sure that they are all working to their optimum capacity. This means that businesses can juice out maximum value from their computers without wasting money on buying additional hardware which may not be required after all.

The combination of Google’s research and development, with the contributions that come from the vast open source developer network, make Kubernetes one of its kind and definitely a revolutionary one.
