As an average working class guy, I have come to accept the fact that I will not be able to live in one of the uber-luxury apartments in Midtown Manhattan. The one caviate would be applying for a new apartment when the housing lottery opens. When I think about it, most people I know would be in the same position as me, if they lived in New York. I am not sure what all of you do for a living, but I would like to pose the question. What does it take to live a comfortable life in one of these buildings?

Via57West, at 625 W. 57th Street, has 2 bedroom, 2 bath apartments starting at $5200 per month. That price is for a 15 month lease. If I wanted to sign a 12 month lease, the price would be $6600. I understand that you are paying for all of the luxuries that come with the building. I mean, the concierge has to get paid, the staff at the fitness center has to get paid, and it costs money to run the building. So when they say that all of the amenities are included in the rent, it makes me wonder what the rent would be if I didn't want access to all of the amenities.

I found a couple of ultra luxury hi-rise apartments ...
... for rent on West 42nd Street with the same type of 2 bedroom, 2 bath apartments. Go figure, they are on the same block. The one on the corner of 42nd street and 12th Ave. is listed at $5690 a month, and the one at 42nd Street and 11th Ave. is listed at $6990 a month.

I can only assume that the reason behind the high price point is location. The portion of Midtown I am looking at is right up against the Hudson River. Not only are the apartments in luxury high rise buildings, which probably cost a fortune to build, you are paying for the views you get from high above street level.

Don't get me wrong, I am not jealous or envious of those that can afford to live in any of those 57th Street luxury apartments for rent. I enjoy my life and the freedoms that I have. I would just like a peak into what they have done to get to a point in their lives that they can afford those types of luxuries.
