Those colors represent nutrients. As an example, orange and yellow fruits are usually high in beta carotene. Thus the green leafy veggies ordinarily have lots of calcium and other nutrients. So adding a lot of different colored vegetables to your salad is crucial to sustain a good health.

A vitamin is not going to cover for you eating unhealthy foods. The growth in sales for dietary supplements is proof that many people follow this trend.

The difference is that foods not only contain essential vitamins but micronutrients as well. Many of these nutrients have not been synthesized yet so are not available in supplement form; many have not even been isolated completely so of course they're not available in pill form. So no supplement, no matter how complete it claims to be, can take the place of a healthy and balanced diet.

Choosing the freshest fruits and vegetables is a must for eating healthy. They taste good, are more budget friendly, and of course they have the most amount of nutrition. And if you choose a variety of fruits and vegetables while they're in season you can then get healthy meals you won't be bored with either.

Remember that you can always purchase canned and frozen fruits and veggies when you are unable to find them fresh during the season. You do need to avoid canned fruits that are packed in syrup and this might take some looking. Canned fruits that are packed in fresh juice or even water are much better choices. So you won't take in much sugar as you would with canned fruits with syrup.

It is important for you to make your salad interesting by adding many different colored fruits and vegetables. If you keep foloowing this then you have the healthiest diet you can possibly have.
