These days it is imperative for youngsters to opt for a career path that gets them into high paying jobs. Everyone has a dream of “making it good”. A job is viewed not as a way to serve humanity or country but as a path for self advancement. Years later, when you retire and look back, would you experience a satisfaction on a life well-spent or do you have an empty feeling? There are a few jobs that give you this feeling and one of them is career in social work.

Social work is challenging
A career in social work is no piece of cake. It is tough and challenging and requires lots of compassion, understanding and patience to be able to handle every day situations. You need to work with people in challenging situations and things get even more difficult when you have to deal with mentally challenged, physically challenged, the aged and the infirm. It is quite strenuous for you physically and mentally unlike regular jobs.

Social work can relate to caring for families and communities as well. You could be involved in health care programmes or deal with addictions. In fact, there are many different avenues ...
... and gaining specialisation in one through advanced certification and degrees will surely benefit.

Social Work Needs Training
A graduation degree is not sufficient to become a social worker. Apart from the innate qualities of compassion and commitment to care for people who are suffering, you also need to become trained. Social workers Liverpool or social workers Staffordshire can specialise in various areas. One of them is caring for adults. These adults may be physically or mentally challenged. Some may be infirm. Some may be aged. Not everyone is alike and it requires specialised training to tackle them and take care of their needs. You can just as well become a social worker London and take on the challenging task of dealing with children who may be physically or mentally challenged. You may opt to work with juvenile offenders. Each area requires some specialised knowledge and skills that come from training. It is better to register with an authorised training institute and attain requisite skills. The certification will also help with registration with the appropriate professional development council, such as the Health and Care Professional Council.

It is not necessary to join a day school for training. Training can be pursued online that one can complete at leisure. Joining an accredited social care organisation that imparts training is also a guarantee of placement in a good organisation across the UK. In time you can become an administrator or a supervisor or even go on to serving international agencies like UNICEF.

Innate qualities required
Most people work for monetary rewards. Social workers place more importance on services. One must have the innate qualities of empathy, compassion and a commitment to serve. If you wish to make something of your life and look back with satisfaction that you have served humanity. Then, social work is for you. You should be ready to take on challenges each day and have tact as well as resourcefulness to deal with the unexpected. If a routine job does not interest you, social work is worth looking at. You are not restricted to one place. You can become a social worker Liverpool, social worker Staffordshire or social worker London. There are openings everywhere across the UK and all over the world for people with qualifications, experience and passion.

Rewards
Social work may be voluntary but it is also a profession and a rewarding one at that. You can climb higher up the administrative ladder and enjoy good standing in the community if you are so minded or continue to interact with people. You may have a wish to travel, and you can join international agencies and travel the world. However, the greatest reward is the silent thanks the soul of the person gives you, the grateful look in their eyes when you tend to them.

The world needs social workers just as much as it needs scientists and engineers. Social workers build humanity. Consider it as a career option. It could change your life forever.

Entrust Social Care is a 14 year old Staffordshire organisation that provides training in social work and a platform to find social work and teaching assistants jobs.
