Offline Storage Table (OST) file allows Outlook users to work offline i.e. in non-Exchange environment which is wonderful for those, who are willing to utilize time while they are offline. With OST file, you can create, edit or delete emails, contacts, notes, journals, and appointments etc. when not in influence of Exchange Server. There are times when MS Outlook is unable to establish connection with Exchange due to Server downtime, database corruptions, network issues etc. At these times, you can work offline and save great amount of time for other important tasks and at the same time all your email related activities are being completed. Like, all your emails that you sent are delivered at the required email addresses, items that are marked for deletion are deleted etc. But sometimes, you feel a need to convert your OST file PST file. Mentioned below are some of these situations:
User's mailbox has been deleted from Exchange Server
If due to some reasons, your mailbox gets deleted from Exchange Server and after sometime you need to have the mails in the mailbox back. Now if ...
... you have the OST file with you, then you can easily convert OST file to PST file and access it with MS Outlook.
Suppose you are going abroad for a business meeting and you carry your OST file with you but Exchange Server is not available to you there. Now you would surely have to convert OST to PST for accessing all your email items.
Exchange Database file has been damaged
Repair OST File : Due to excessive and repeated access of Exchange database, the file might get corrupt and in such situation, OST file can act as a blessing for fetching your emails back. Convert your OST file to PST and access the same with MS Outlook to continue further communication.
Exchange Server has been crashed
The problem with OST file is that you cannot access emails and other items stored in it directly using Outlook, you must have Exchange environment to access emails etc from OST file. Hence, if Exchange Server crashes, then you have to convert OST to PST i.e. in Outlook accessible format.
OST file has been damaged due to 2GB file limitation
MS Outlook versions 97, 98, 2000, 2002, or 2003 have a 2 GB maximum threshold limit for Offline Folder Store (OST) and Local Personal Store (PST) files. Hence the normal size for Exchange Mailboxes is 2 GB every user. MS Outlook displays Mailbox Cleanup Wizard when the user reaches its threshold size limit. However, if not taken care of such situations, user’s OST file might get damaged due to 2 GB file limitation. In such cases, it’s better to convert OST to PST and access your mails through MS Outlook.
All the situations mentioned above, might happen to anyone across the world and therefore, to get out of such havocs, it is better to repair OST file and save it in a newly created PST file. To repair OST file, you will need to take help of efficient OST recovery software, which also performs OST to PST conversion. This way you can access your files through MS Outlook and don’t have to worry anymore for losing on any vital data saved in OST file.
