Why To Pursue Masters Programs In Mass Communication?

In general, there are four types of communication mediums which we implement in our day-to-day lives. Everyday we communicate with other people face-to-face, through Videos, Audios & Text in order to share information with each other. With the technology advancements and the perception of the world towards interpersonal communication shifting towards digital methods, the parameters of communication are swiftly changing. Due to the social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, Pinterest, so on & so forth, the communication has become convenient & fast nowadays. Although, despite having so many resources and modifications in the means of communication, the basic structures of communication modes have remained the same. In this article, we will discuss different types of communication modes and their objectives.
It is very important to understand these as it helps in effectively practicing the concept of communication, which is to transmit information to an audience. In order to influence the audience effectively, the communicator needs to manage the content, tone and understand the target ...
... audience thoroughly. It is such an important aspect of our information system that there are several programs at university level to train people to be masters in communication management.
There are three different types of communication modes:
a. Interpersonal Communication: Interpersonal Communication is a Two-way Communication with active negotiation of meaning between two individuals. This kind of communication is usually spontaneous, involves exchange of information between the two parties and is directed towards a meaningful conclusion. It requires an active participation from both the subjects in order to observe one another & adapt to the flow of the conversation as fit.
b. Interpretive Communication: Interpretive Communication is an one-way communication mode which does not have an option of active negotiation of meaning with the communicator. To put it in simple words, readers, viewers or listeners only interpret what the content generator is communicating. Interpretive communication largely depends on the audience’s comprehension level & ability to read between the lines, cultural mindset and perspective altogether.
c. Presentational Communication: Presentational communication also is an one-way communication which is intended for an audience of readers, listeners or viewers. This mode of communication simply conveys presentation and not exchange of the information. As a result of this, there is no direct opportunity for active negotiation as the audience is exposed to the information presenter wants to communicate.
The aforementioned modes of communication can be effectively used only after learning the core concepts. There are several options for students who wish to apply for masters degree such as MA in mass communication college. Through the program they can learn to recognize the connection between these modes of communication and how to relate them to their ideas and problems in society at a higher level. The students also need to learn how to develop an awareness , communication and cultural industries in the 21st century through research-informed and practical activities to empower their communication strategies.
