If you plan to be one of the lucky visitors and find yourself with a little spare time in between cheering your country on, why not try to see a little more of London than the Olympic stadium? London is a wonderfully diverse city with a wide range of attractions to suit everyone.

The London Eye

The London Eye, also known as the Millennium Wheel is a unique way of experiencing London. It attracts over three million visitors per year and offers spectacular panoramic views over London, with visibility of up to 25 miles on a clear day. Or, if you're more of a night-owl, you can book a night flight and see the lights of London from 443 metres in the air.

Bus Tour

However, if you would prefer to keep your feet a little closer to the ground, you could always take a bus tour instead. There are two main options: The Original London Sightseeing Tour and The Big Bus Tour. Both of these services offer several routes, which will take you past many London landmarks, including Nelson's Column, Buckingham Palace, the Tower of London and the Houses of Parliament. The Original London Sightseeing Tour allows you to ...
... hop on and hop off at your leisure and both bus tours include 3 free walking tours and a free cruise on the River Thames.

Shakespeare's Globe Theatre

For those who would like to experience a little culture, there is no better attraction than The Globe Theatre on the South Bank of the River Thames. Completed in 1997, the Globe Theatre was the vision of late American director, actor and producer Sam Wanamaker. He founded what became the Shakespeare Globe Trust, in order to reconstruct the theatre as faithfully to the original building and as close to the original location as was possible. As well as staging Shakespeare's work, the Globe also hosts an exhibition about Shakespeare's life and a guided tour of the theatre.

The Tower of London

Built by William the Conqueror, the Tower has functioned as a fortress, a prison and a palace. Some of the most famous prisoners include Anne Boleyn, Guy Fawkes, Lady Jane Grey, Sir Walter Raleigh, Rudolf Hess and the Kray twins. There is much to see at the Tower of London include the armour of Henry VIII, the resident ravens, the Crown Jewels and perhaps even a ghost or two! There have been reported sightings of Thomas Beckett, Anne Bolyn and Sir Walter Raleigh, amongst others.

Madame Tussauds

For those wanting to rub shoulders with some of the best known names, you can come fairly close at Madame Tussauds. London's famous exhibition of waxwork figures attracts over two million visitors per year. Famous faces from Hollywood, the sporting world and Royalty all feature here, amongst others. Meeting with your favourite film characters is even possible, with Shrek and Robert Downey Jr's as the eponymous Sherlock Holmes from Guy Ritchie's latest blockbuster both featuring in the exhibition. Most of the figures are not roped off, so it is possible to get up close and personal with your favourite celebrities for a photograph or a quick hug.
