All three Apple iPad come in different capacities and if this is one of your main criteria then know that the iPad 2 is no longer marketed in the 16 GB version. And if not three criteria will guide your choice: the clutter, the resolution of the screen and the price of course!

If your main purpose of acquiring an iPad is to stay at home where its weight and size are not a problem for you, then you have two options: the iPad 2 (older design, since it dates from 2011) and the whole Recent iPad Retina (4th generation)

You will choose the iPad Retina over the two remaining if:

• It is your first iPad and you want it to last several years: by taking the latest model, you ensure a support with update of the OS for at least 2 years and probably 3 if we go by what Apple does. You want to buy the latest technology in terms of screen and power
• You like graphically evolved games (Infinity Blade, Real Racing 2 HD), you're going to have fun with the Retina screen and the onboard power
• You plan to process digital photos on your iPad (import possible from your DSLR), of course, the ...
... screen will be important for crisp details, as well as power. Same for video editing

While the iPad 2 should suit you:

• If it's your first tablet and you're not really sure what you're going to do with it, then the iPad 2 at the lower price is interesting. But beware of the storage capacity limited to 16 GB (see point above)
• You use or plan to use a tablet as a priority to surf the Internet and check emails. The power of the iPad 2 will be enough
• Budget tight but want a big screen
• You have tons of cable and accessories in the format of the dock 30 pins, it hurts you to do without. Note that the iPad 2 is the latest compatible with the 30 pins, the iPad mini and the iPad Retina with the new Lightning connector.

Finally, you might be interested in the mini iPad in the following cases:

• The portable and mobile look is important to you, you're always on the go and whether it's in a purse or wallet, size and weight (half the iPad Retina) are an important factor.
• You have small children; the weight is even more suitable for them, just like the size of the mini iPad.
