Is Your Smartphone Ready For Travel?
While traveling, your cellphone can be the most essential thing to pack along with other things. Whether it is for contacting family or friends or for taking photos or killing time while waiting for your delayed flight, it comes in handy and that is the reason you take it along wherever you go. However, sliding the phone in the pocket and stuffing its charger in the bag is not enough. It may seem like it is, but you may come across several problems such as power and cellular frequencies to locked devices, roaming charges among others and for that, you need to be prepared before you are all set to go.
These devices run out of battery fast while you are constantly on the move. One reason for it is the irregular network signal strength and of course, there’s the multimedia usage. Even the battery of new android phones run out within several hours if used heavily. To save it from shutting down, you do have a charger but does every place accept the same type of plug as in your home? Even if you do, make sure that the voltage requirements that are written on the charger match with the power where you are going to plug in or ...
... there is a risk that your dear device may blow up. To prevent all the trouble, you can buy a travel plug adapter and use the same for another electronic device too. You can also carry a power bank to keep it from running out of juice.
Check for information regarding your mobile service to see if the provider has a roaming partner in the place where you are heading to make sure that you do not require a local SIM. However, be ready for substantial roaming charges. On the other hand, if getting a local SIM is easy and cost-effective, go for it.
If your stay is longer than a couple of weeks, you can get your phone unlocked and pick up a new SIM card from the local carrier instead of using roaming. The prepaid SIMs has made it easier and it is not even necessary to go through lengthy contracts. You can throw away the SIM card after you leave the country.
However, if the place of your visit has easy access to wireless internet, getting a SIM card is not necessary and communication would not be much of a problem. Do check with your travel agent. Last but not the least; protect it from all the possible damages and theft in the new place, especially when you have to use public transportation. While you may require your handy gadget to take stunning picture and videos, but if you do happen to carry a professional camera along, it is best to carry a basic feature phone for the purpose. That way you do not have to remain extra careful and you can have your full attention on the purpose of your visit, travel or work. Have a safe journey and a smooth visit.
