The capacity of the third generation AIT tape has been doubled from AIT 2 tape media. Uncompressed recording ability of the AIT-3 tape format is 100 GB, and with 2.6:1 compression it can hold 260 GB compressed information. It is backward compatible (full read & write) with the AIT 2 and AIT 1 tape formats. The transfer rate of AIT 3 tape technology is 12 MB/s (native) and in compressed mode it has speed up to 31.2 MB/s.

Sony has introduced a new and advanced form of AIT data tape known as Super AIT tape (S-AIT) which is a hybrid of numerous technologies. AIT tape format's high density features are incorporated in the Super AIT technology such as the helical-scan technique and AME media. Half inch cartridge is used in the SAIT technology. This combination can hold data of 500 gigabytes.

Sony offers leading AIT product line and has introduced five generation of AIT tape that meet the market demands. The AIT backup system is ideal for working environments ranging from stand alone drives used in the small businesses to the automated libraries and tape loaders. Therefore the AIT technology is best for SMB to the ...
... small enterprises. Other competitive tape technologies do not have high data density and this is compensated by increasing the quantity of media. So larger mechanisms are needed by them, so more energy and space is required by them.

The users in Branch office and SMB demand a backup solution that is capable of addressing their needs of data protection, reliability, user-friendly, space efficient and data archiving. In a given library the companies can accommodate twice the quantity of AIT tape drives in comparison to the traditional ½ inch tape drives. AIT tape format introduced the first 1-U autoloader of the world that was small sized and also consumed less power. Therefore these features made it ideal for the tight locations.

Most of the companies fear that it is costly and difficult to switch to another different backup tape technology. The migration can be done painlessly. A standard backup-cycle of thirty days needs to be followed and the majority of the company's data will be shifted on to the AIT tape cartridges within a month. In addition, each of the Sony AIT tape library or drive is bundled with the tape copy software NovaStor. The NovaStor migration software eases the process of copying the frequently used or sensitive data from other tape formats onto the AIT tape media. The backup data should always be available when it is needed and the data mangers should not have to maintain tape drives, check dozens of cartridges and wait for hours in order to retrieve the required data. AIT tape products by Sony enable the companies to efficiently backup their data at lower cost.

AIT is a highly reliable tape format. Tape4backup offers high quality and durable AIT-1 tape, AIT-2 tape, AIT-3 tape, AIT-4 tape and AIT-5 tape at lowest prices. Lifetime warranty is also offered on all backup media tapes.
