Easier Maintenance Of Sony Ait-3 Worm Tape
New technologies and business challenges are driving the organizations to adopt the best affordable, low cost storage mediums that should also have the flexibility for system up-gradation. Sony AIT3 WORM technology offers all these attributes that increase the overall efficiency of the company. Sony AIT storage solutions provide easier maintenance, better reliability, exceptional performance, broader capacities range and strategic path for up gradation. Sony AIT is more flexible tape technology that can effectively meet the needs of individual personal computers to workgroups and enterprises.
Sony AIT is a proven 8mm helical scan backup tape format. Advanced Intelligent Tape emerged as strategic backup medium in comparison to the Super DLT, LTO & DLT tapes that are based on linear technology. Reliability and consistency in operations are the two vital and key components for backup tape medium. Unique design and innovative technologies helped the MTBF rating in Sony AIT3 tape drives to reach 400,000 hours. On the other hand the mean time between failure ratings of DLT tape technology is 250,000 hours.
AIT uses ...
... a soft-loading mechanism in which the media is loaded without the use of levers or motors. So the soft loading mechanism in Sony AIT reduces the tape stress and as a result the longevity of the tape increases. Soft loading of media can also be carried out at middle of the tape. The AIT roadmap is proven and well defined with capacity, speed and performance doubled in its each new upgraded version. All of the AIT data tape versions are backward compatible.
AIT3 WORM tape contains RMIC memory, whose purpose is to store the index of the all the data that has been written onto the tape. An other index is held by AIT tape media which is located in the system area. The index in RMIC is the duplicate of the system area's index. This index information is used by the WORM technology so that over-writing on stored data could be prevented in AIT 3 WORM cartridge. RMIC chip also utilizes a fast search map. This map stores the positioning information during the data recording. The stored information and search map in the RMIC chip boosts the bi-directional searching process of the AIT drive.
Sony SDX3-100C AIT-3 is ideal for those organizations that are facing the challenge of accommodating greater backup volumes, and faster data recoveries at lower costs. AIT is the optimum tape technology for interactive applications due to its faster load, rewind & seek times. The data access speed in AIT tape format is 39 sec, and on the other hand it is 80 sec in Super DLT tape technology.
Size of AIT cartridges is very small when compared with other tapes. Small size makes it more easy to use the AIT tape cartridges in automated tape libraries as lesser room space will be required by them.
Sony AIT-3 tape cartridge is more advantageous, user friendly and economical. LTO tape format is very robust, reliable and cost efficient. Highly durable Sony SDX3-100C tape cartridges are available at tape4backup.
