Sony AIT backup tape technology is engineered and designed intelligently to provide high performance and durability. It has both reliable technologies of pure magnetic layer and the Memory in Cassette (MIC chip). The other backup tape formats do not offer both these features simultaneously. These innovative features help in tape longevity and provide maximum output level. Pure cobalt (100 percent) in the Sony AIT tape increases magnetic retentivity. Pure metal is deposited on AIT base film directly in form of layer without binders or adhesives. AME technology increases the recording performance of Sony AIT.

Operational information and the directory are stored in memory chip which is built in the AIT tape cartridge. Therefore the users can rapidly access the required information on the AIT tape cartridge and thus the ejection and loading time also reduces. Smooth coating of carbon on the AIT tape protects its surface. The width of tape reel is 8mm and this coating on tape surface is harder in comparison to the metal oxides about twenty times more, which makes the Sony AIT tape format more reliable. Performance, durability ...
... and capacity have been doubled in the AIT-3 tape format. AIT3 tape cartridges have incredible recording capacity (260GB compressed &100GB native). AIT-3 is 8mm cassette like the AIT1 and AIT2 tape cartridges. Its size is one third of the LTO or DLT tape cartridge of equivalent recording capacity. Experience of Sony in helical scan and tape drives made possible the reduction of AIT-3 tape cartridge's size.

Advanced Metal Evaporated technology in AIT3 format makes it more intelligent, faster, and durable with remarkable data protection. Sony AIT-3 provide super fast access, maximum tape life, durability, data recording capacity and can store more data volumes in less space. The height, depth and width of Sony AIT3 tape cartridge are 62.5mm, 15mm and 95mm respectively. The head life is about 50,000 hours with 30,000 write/rewind cycles. Data storage needs of the enterprise are increasing exponentially and AIT3 tape format has the technology and capacity to match these requirements. Advancements have been made in the technologies incorporated in AIT-3 tape format along with fast file access mechanism and improved durability. That is why the AIT3 is the most reliable, fastest and smallest backup tape format in its class that offers 260 Gigabytes compressed capacity.

R-MIC (Remote Memory in Cassette) interface system has been further enhanced by Sony in AIT-3 tape format. AIT-3 tape media technology allows the consumers to read the content of tape media and they do not even need to load the tape. This feature provides huge potential for further enhancements and advancements in the environment of automated tape library. Along with all these advantageous features, AIT3 tape drives can read & write and are fully compatible with medias of its prior generation (AIT2 and AIT1 tape media). The roadmap of the AIT tape format is committed to double the recording space with its every upcoming new generation. The businesses improve their business operations effectively and efficiently with the AIT backup tape products. The compressed capacity of AIT-3 reaches 260GB in 3.5 inch compact tape drive. At MTBF of 400,000 hours, AIT3 technology offers outstanding and remarkable reliability. Its average time to access data is less than 35 seconds. Sony AIT3 tape drive consumes less power and as result the heat generation is also low. Interface system of R-MIC and utilization of smart card mechanism enhances the data management.

Sony AIT is a highly reliable tape storage format that offers unmatched performance at low cost. Tape4backup offers high quality Sony SDX3-100W tape, HP AIT-3 tape and Sony AIT-3 tape at lowest prices.
