Article Marketing is a major source of targeted traffic online. But in order to get maximum benefit you need to follow proven tried and tested strategies.

The following 10 tips should be adhered to in order to maximise your results with article marketing;

1. Focus your article on a single theme
Too often article marketers introduce too many different topics into the one article which mitigates the articles potency. If your article is about Search Engine Optimization, don't start talking about billboards half way through.

2. Present you article in bite size chunks.
Article structure is very important; users will not read an article right through if it's presented as a single block of text. Use bulleted or numbered lists and keep paragraphs short, 3 or 4 lines with plenty of white space.

3. Optimize your articles with adequate keyword density.
You need to ensure your most important keywords are as near to the start of your title as possible. These keywords will then automatically append to the articles URL thus ensuring the article receives maximum search engine placement. Many people ...

4. Create a killer title.
Your title is one of your articles most important elements. It not only needs to contain your keywords for Search Engine Optimization purposes but it needs to stop a reader dead in their tracks. Use one of the ubiquitous headline generators on Google to create a killer title.

5. Create a killer resource box.
Your resource box is your only compensation for writing the article. You need to include your full URL preceded with http://, a compelling reason to click through e.g. a FREE report and a bio that expresses your expertise. 6. Write in a conversational tone.
It's very important for the reader to feel they are having a discussion with you. Do not write your article in highfalutin business tone. Write it as if you were speaking to a friend. Don't be afraid to let your personality shine through in the article. This gives your article character and will increase the likelihood the reader will finish reading it.

7. Give an exciting reason to read the article in the first paragraph.
Your article title has the purpose of getting your reader to click on your article. However you need to reveal an exciting reason in your first paragraph as to why a reader should read your article to the end. You might say something like; "Over the following paragraphs I will reveal how I transformed my online income from nothing to $10,000 a month, in just 12 weeks". A word of warning here though do not make a statement that you article content does not deliver on. If you say you will reveal this secret then reveal it.

8. Deliver your most interesting information over the first half of the article.
This is important because many ezine editors will cut an article if it runs over the space they have available. It is within your interests to get published in these ezine, so creating maximum impact at the beginning of an article is essential.

9. Use a pen name to avoid diluting of expertise.
If like most article marketers you write on a variety of topics, then it is strongly advisable that you use multiple pen names. For example if you write on Birdwatching, Internet Marketing and Tennis your three different pen names could be; Elizabeth Woods, E. Woods or Beth Woods. This retains your credibility and expertise because if you used one pen name it gives the impression you know a little about everything as opposed to a lot about one thing.

10. Turn you articles into podcasts.
As well as distributing your article to article directories you can increase their reach by turning your articles into an audio file using the free 'audacity' tool. You can then upload them to various pod casting sites and extend the reach of your articles. Everyone has an iPod or MP3 player these days, so the smart thing to do is to take advantage of this medium.
