Over 80 years ago, the German summer Olympics was broadcasted around the world making television history. On August 6th, the 2016 summer Olympics kickstarted in Rio De Janeiro. Sports fans pumped up with patriotism tuned in to watch the ceremony in the colourful city. The games are underway as you read this and as usual the United States is in the lead with the most medals, which leads to the question, so, where is India?
The United States has only a fraction of the population compared to India, which has over over one billion people and yet the number of medals we get in the Olympics puts us to shame. China, which has an equally large population, has managed to increasingly snag more and more medals at every Olympic Games held. So, why are we not putting in the efforts to increase our presence in the world with an image other than outsourcing, poverty, pollution and overcrowded cities? Clearly, with over a billion people there are enough talented individuals with the potential to be award winningswimmers [Swimming Classes in Pune], archers[Archery Classes in Pune], basketball players [BasketballClasses in Pune], ...
... football teams, etc.
Even, if we took the population in just the cities, we could find thousands of talented individuals with unrealized potential. Moreover, it is in cities that huge corporations and MNC’s exist. If you look at the Olympic games, it is usually sponsored by some mega corporation. So, where are our millionaires and billionaires? What are they doing to improve their country and raise the standard of living for its citizens? If a handful of the top companies in India, spent a fraction of their profits every year into developing the sports potential of our youngsters, then we too can make leaps and bounds, similar to China in terms of improvement and development.
But then, I can’t even get my society members where I live to come together for the greater good, so how can a nation come together, when it is simply a larger representation of the small societies we live in. Moreover, who will take the first step in undertaking this challenging task of transforming the mindset of the country and its citizens? Does this brave and compassionate person even exist in this country? If not, what are we going to do? Embarrass ourselves at every international sporting event or join together and improve our country and the thousands of youths with hidden potential, which go unrealized daily?
