Significance Of Char Dham Yatra In Hindu Religion

Char Dham are the four Hindu pilgrimage site in India and the visit to Char Dham is considered one of the most holy rituals in Hindu religion. It is firm belief in Hindu religion that a Yatra (Travel) to the Char Dham purify a person from all the sins and leads him/her to Moksh (Release from the cycle of rebirth impelled by the law of karma).

The Char Dham Yatra includes pilgrimage tour to Dwarka, Badrinath, Jagannath Puri and Rameshwaram, the four holy pilgrimage site as per Hindu belief. Char Dham locations form a square structure on a map, as Badrinath and Rameshwaram fall on the same longitude and Puri and Dwarka fall on same latitude. All the four holy places have their own importance and significance in Hindu Mythology.

1. Dwarka :

Dwarka is a small city of Dwarka district in the state of Gujarat. The city derives its name from the Sanskrit language word Dwar (door). 2. Rameshwaram :

Rameshwaram is a small town in Ramanathapuram district in the state of Tamil Nadu. It is a beautiful island between India and Srilanka. It is located in the gulf of Mannar, at the very tip of the Indian peninsula. According to Hindu Mythological stories this is the place where Lord Ram built a bridge (Ram Setu) to Lanka. The Ramanath Swamy temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and the temple is constructed by Lord Ram. It is considered that pilgrimage tour to Banaras is incomplete without a pilgrimage to Rameshwaram. There are two Jyotirlinga in the temple one is built by Godess Sita and one is bought by Hanuman from Kailash Mountain.

3. Jagannath Puri :

It is located in Puri distrct in the state of Orissa the eastern cost of India. Jagannath Puri temple is one of the Char Dham and consider one of the most visited Hindu pilgrimage in India. The temple is dedicated to Lord Krishna the incarnate of Lord Vishnu. The word Jagannath means the Lord of the universe. The idols of these immortals are made from wood material and changes in every twelve year. An annual Rath Yatra is very famous in India and people across the globe witness of that every year. The best time to visit Jagannath Puri is October to April.

4. Badrinath :

Badrinath is situated in Chamoli district in the state of Uttarakhand. The holy pilgrimage is dedicated to Lord Vishnu. The king of the Gadhwal constructed the current structure of the temple. The temple is popularly known as Badri Narayan, The Lord Badri Narayan carries Shankh (Conch) in one hand and Chakra in second hand. The best time to visit Badrinath is May to October except mansoon time in India.
