What is Pilates?
Pilates is a mode of exercise, which is a combination of strengthening as well as relaxation. They are said to lessen the load on the spine and the joints, and corrects the muscular imbalance which is caused by bad posture. By doing Pilates, one achieves fitness in the whole body, unlike other methods of exercising, which concentrates only on certain body parts. • As one starts doing these workouts, one begins to realize that he or she is able to achieve a refreshing mind and body. These workouts involve proper breathing along with correct spinal and pelvic movement, which makes one learn how to control breathing and the muscles together. Proper breathing techniques actually help one reduce stress.
• It can be called a body-conditioning program, which doesn’t involve any heavy-weight equipment. The whole exercise can simply be done using one’s own body weight to create resistance of the muscles and to tone up. So, one need to put as much effort as possible to gain the maximum from these exercises.
• These exercises also help a person achieve a strong body along with flexibility. If the muscles are tight, they may hinder the mobility and can lead to unnecessary pain, aches and muscle tension.
• They are very dynamic and don’t involve much static stretching exercises.
• Traditional workouts may tend to develop bulky muscles, which are more prone to injury. But, Pilates not only makes the muscles flexible, but also lengthens and strengthens the muscles, which helps to achieve a lean and strong body.
