When I think of a boarding school, the mystique image of Bollywood movies school strikes my mind; like the one from Kabhi khushi kabhi gham or the ad of shanty amla oil endorsed by Karishma. Schools with high end facilities, glamorous uniforms & luxurious rooms fascinate every Indian child to pursue their academic career in a school like that. Real life residential schools are not exactly that but they involve the best social community a child cab have. Probably children have developed a sense of belongingness for the idea of hostel life because of it. Home away from home is a very unique feature of school experience that gives the student confidence and independence from the beginning. In UK, schools accept full boarders from a very young age of 8 years, in America between the ages of 14 – 18 year olds. Boarding schools in India seem to take a more middle path with handful accepting 8 year old students to others accepting full boarders from 12 years. Today’s fast pacing lifestyle has in fact challenged parenthood and good nurturing. Therefore, many parents go out of their way to give their children what’s best of ...
... the best for education.

Discipline, academics & self growth are given utmost priority at such schools. Strict rules, daily class discussions, tests & sports are a part of daily schedule. Team playing and leadership qualities are inculcated through such activities only. Various sessions are held for the overall growth of students which include communication skills, creative artwork & social development. These sessions not only help to develop one’s personality but also help in getting rid of boredom and stereo-type pressure of the study life.

Lately, there has been a change in rules in favor of the boarders. Rules that prevailed years back are no more a part of the system now. Yes, with the change in time there has been a need to revamp the rule book too. Mobile phones & internet have made it easier to connect. Parents are just a call away. They can have video chats which definitely help the boarder lighten their heart. Spending weekends with family & short breaks in semesters, help the boarders come back much more focused. The food is yummy which definitely doesn’t let you miss ‘ghar ka khana’ & of course with limited seats per class, every student gets personal attention. With all such facilities, the life of a boarder becomes a little easy, not like the Bollywood school certainly, but a little easier than what it’s assumed to be.
