Welsh Solicitor In Running For Woman Lawyer Of The Year

A Cardiff solicitor has been shortlisted for Woman Lawyer of the Year for her work pioneering the way for women in senior roles.

Caron Rockey, Head of Litigation at Martyn Prowel Solicitors on Newport Road, is one of just five lawyers to be shortlisted from entries right across the UK for the prestigious award by the Law Society. She is the only Welsh solicitor in the running for this category.

Caron, has been shortlisted for excellence in her field and for her work supporting other female lawyers and legal support staff.

Thanks to her work in equal opportunities, well over half the workforce at Martyn Prowel Solicitors are female, above the legal profession's average. The firm is also leading the way in positively reinforcing the position of women in senior roles in Wales. Caron has dedicated her time to personally mentoring and coaching other women in law to help them achieve higher positions and change the face of the legal profession going forward.

Speaking about being shortlisted, Caron said: "Although women solicitors make up about half of the profession now, they are still not represented ...
... proportionately in senior level positions. I feel passionately that having more women in these roles will benefit the sector as a whole. Martyn Prowel share my passion and the firm has wholeheartedly supported me in my efforts. To even be considered for Woman Lawyer of the Year is such an honour. I'd love to take the title for Wales and for my firm, which I believe is really leading the way in the sector in Wales."

Caron qualified as a solicitor in 1992 and joined Martyn Prowel Solicitors in 1996. She became a director in 2000. She specialises in civil litigation, personal injury and medical negligence and is currently acting for clients pursuing claims as a result of being fitted with defective hips manufactured by DuPuy. Caron is a long-standing member of the Law Society's Personal Injury Panel and the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers.

The Woman Lawyer of the Year will be announced at the Law Society Excellence Awards on 22 October in London.
