Getting back to root canal treatments, as per Dr. Deshmukh, root canal treatment becomes unavoidable when any kind of dental decay is avoided for a long time. Slowly, it progresses and reaches up to the root canal of the tooth. The treatment helps in eliminating the infection from that end and save the tooth. The root canal of the teeth has blood vessels and nerves in it that look after the teeth by providing it with nutrients and oxygen. Whenever a person forgets or gets careless in taking care of dental decay in outer layers, it proceeds to inner ends thereby reaching the root of the denture. It causes inflammation and infection in the nerves, consequently, the inflamed tissue dies and gets replaced with pus and infected material. It is a very painful condition which is often accompanied by swelling. A root canal treatment ensures removal of infected portion and its replacement with fillings. When the infected tissues are removed, the teeth receives nutrition from other surrounding tissues.
There are several other reasons that may lead to such an infection, it may be an accidental crack in the crown, leakage from previous ...
... fillings, or infection in gums that might move up to the root of the tooth. The root canal treatment is also known as Endodontic Treatment. The procedure basically includes sterilizing and cleaning of root canal and removal of infected tissue. The complete procedure might take one or two visits with the doctor depending on the stage of infection. If the infection is active means the tissue is not dead, the doctor will give you antibiotics for 3.5 days for reduction of infection and pain. Local anesthesia is provided before the treatment which brings some relief to the patient. In first stage, the doctor places rubber dam around the infected tooth which assures drying of tooth during treatment and prevents contamination in nearby parts. The upper layer of the tooth is then drilled with a dental drill which provides access to pulp chamber.
Next, the dentist cleans up the inner end of the tooth with some files. Once the canal is clean and somewhat enlarged, the doctor cements it with a mixture temporarily. After some time, the temporary filling is removed and the canal is filled with a permanent filling and cemented with crown.
