When you decide to reduce your debt by sending your creditors a debt settlement letter, you are helping yourself to get out of debt. This is a good step for you, but you must know that there are things you should not include in your letter to avoid it from being rejected.

1. Mind your manners

You are writing this letter to get help and assistance so you must use words that would help you achieve that. Avoid being rude, harsh or using threatening words and tones. No one responds well to harsh words and this could backfire on you.

2. Be careful of the information you share

You need to give your creditors adequate information so that they can help you but avoid from giving them all your personal details especially your savings account number. Why? They can check your account balances and if you have a considerable sum in there, they might choose not to accept your debt settlement offer.

3. Do not oversell

Sometimes, when writing, we get passionate about it and often times get carried away. Do not let this happen to you, if you are writing a novel this would not matter but you are not, so ...
... keep your letter at a considerable length. When you are proposing a settlement name a value you can afford and not something that you cannot afford. Because once you agree to settle, you will need to come up with the cash immediately, so make sure whatever you have is enough.

4. Payment strategy

Never mentions that you would want to pay in installments as creditors would rather receive the entire sum at one go. Installments got you into trouble in the first place so they would rather get the whole amount since they are already giving you a discount.

Not everyone can get their debt settled which just one letter so make sure you do not give up, keep trying and remember to do follow ups after every letter you send them. Good Luck!
