MPCD - Consume Less Energy With These Green Energy Tips by Paul Chehade.

The options for going green can sometimes seem overwhelming to the novice. Do you feel that "going green" is just too expensive? Forget the past and move into the future today, by reading this article and the simple tips within, so you can change your home for the better.

Do you have a farm? If you do, or if you are aware of someone that does, you may be able to rent some of the property to a local energy company that will install a type of wind turbine. Not only will the turbine use minimal land, it can provide you with free energy.

Check with a technician and see if switching to biodiesel for your home instead of fuel oil is a viable option for you. A lot of times this can be done with minimal modifications to your existing system. Biodiesel burns cleaner and more efficiently than conventional petroleum, reducing your home's environmental impact during the winter.

Use window treatments to shade the inside of your home when you aren't home. This cools down your house and lowers energy use. Pay particular attention to covering ...
... the windows on the south side of your house. They typically admit the most sun. Try using coverings on all of the windows, such as dark curtains, roman shades, or some roller shades.

When installing solar panels, ensure that the energy-storing batteries are installed as close to the cells as possible. This will prevent power from being lost in the cable. It also prevents the cable covering the cells, which would reduce their generation capability.

Try to learn about passive and active solar power. Passive power is used immediately and is cheaper, but active power has the ability to store energy for later use. If you use active power, you will need to install mechanical systems, solar panels and cells. Passive power, instead, just stores the energy gotten from the sun inside your home.

If you don't know what changes to make, consider having a heating expert or plumber come to your home and give you a list of changes you can make to cut your energy costs. They will be able to tell you how much money you are losing on inefficient appliances, and they can also give you an accurate estimate of what it will cost to upgrade or replace your systems.

Watch your watt usage. Try using gadgets like the Kill-A-Watt and the Watt Minder to see what in your home uses too much energy. You can tell how much energy it uses by plugging the appliance into it. With that information, you will be able to calculate how much that appliance costs to operate.

An old, yet good tip, for those looking to save on energy is to turn off your lights whenever you leave a room. Shutting off your lights when you leave a room is a simple act, but it will surprise you by the amount of energy it saves. You will also save on your electric bill.

A tankless water heater that heats water on-demand is a great energy saving device. Traditional water heaters constantly keep a full tank of water hot, which sits idle until it is used. Using an on-demand water heater is a great way to save both energy and money.

Although turning off lights or electrical equipment that is not being used seems like an obvious change to make, many people don't remember to do this. Just this single habit could prevent a lot of unnecessary energy use and save much money. Consider what you are doing before it is done, and turn those appliances and lights off when you are finished using them.

So now you should be able to understand what it truly takes to alter your home to become more green and environmentally friendly. The answers you were looking for have been provided here and now is the time to start using them. You'll be surprised by the results you see.
