Knowing What To Expect From The United States History I Clep Test
Tuition for a United States history course in college will cost hundreds or thousands of dollars, require you to spend three hours each week for a semester attending lectures, and take up time outside the classroom for studying and writing papers. CLEP, College Level Examination Program, allows students to demonstrate their knowledge of U.S. history on a computerized 90 minute long exam and earn credits for qualifying exam scores. Each CLEP test costs less than $100 to take - a fraction of the cost of normal tuition! Over 2,900 colleges and universities allow students to use CLEP test credits to meet general education degree requirements!
If you've decided to take the U.S. History I CLEP exam, you're probably wandering what material will be covered on the exam so you will know what you need to study. The United States History I CLEP test covers material taught in a one semester introductory level U.S. history course that students typically take during their freshman year in college. The U.S. History I CLEP test has approximately 120 questions on it covering a myriad of topics ...
... from the beginning of U.S. History and going up to the year 1877. Student must be familiar with intellectual, cultural, societal, and financial developments; public policy and political behavior and institutions; and diplomacy and international relations during the early colonization period in United States history through the year 1877.
Students will have 90 minutes to answer the questions on the computerized exam. Most questions will appear in a multiple choice format. Like any standardized exam, CLEP test questions can be tricky. The best approach is to reach each question thoroughly, know exactly what the question is asking, remain calm, use logical methods of answer elimination, and do not spend too much time on one question. Typically, students will look at a CLEP test question and be able to immediately eliminate one obviously wrong answer. However, there are usually two CLEP question answer choices that are seemingly correct. Students must use critical thinking skills to select the correct answer on the CLEP test. When in doubt, it is best to guess instead of leave a question unanswered because wrong answers do not count against the final CLEP score.
Once the CLEP exam is over, students will receive an unofficial CLEP score (the official score will come within a few weeks) ranging from 20 to 80. ACE, the American Council on Education, recommends that colleges grant three credits to students who earn a score or 50 or higher on the U.S. History I CLEP tests.
If you earn a qualifying score on the U.S. History I CLEP exam, you'll be awarded the college credit you would have received had you taken a general U.S. History I course! Once you complete one CLEP test, your confidence will increase.
