Supreme Fashionista Jil Sanders Revealed-00-4882

Sander's boasted a cult-like following for her clothing ranges that used top quality materials to add a true elegant touch to her clothing lines; a skill she still applies effectively more than 30 years later. Sander has created clothing for fashion-conscious celebrities including Nicole Kidman, Uma Thurman and Sharon Stone.
Throughout the years
1960s-90s
She created her own fashion house, Jil Sander GmbH in 1978 after studying textile design in the 60s and progressing up to the role as a fashion editor for Petra, a popular women's magazine in her native Germany. Sander's went on to celebrate the opening of her first boutique store in 1967 in Hamburg through which she sold clothing designed by Sonia Rykiel and Thierry Mugler as well as her own. From here she showcased collections in the fashion capitals of the world including Milan and Paris where she gained notoriety for her minimalist designs.
From here her own fashion house was born and Sander's built herself a reputation for creating clothing lines that displayed only the best fabrics with luxurious designs of plain colours and minimal fuss. ...
... She has been described as the Queen of Less and the Master of Minimalism during her long and well established career which really came to light in the 1990s. Her simple yet luxurious coats and suits, ideal for women looking to conquer the world, were hugely appreciated as the minimalistic fashion-era kicked in and her exotic cashmere knits and neutral-coloured silks earned her a $200 million fashion empire and a prestigious status as a designer.
Sander's approach to fashion was slightly unappreciated for the first few years of her career as the world sought out garish colours and glitzy sequins; a total contradiction to Sander's designs. During the 1990s, when fashion turned to austere colours with browns, blacks and whites conquering the catwalks and a less is more attitude, she took the fashion world by storm and finally got her deserved worldwide recognition.
1999-now
After her successful dominance, she soon branched out into menswear, perfumes and accessories and prominent department stores including Barneys New York admitted to her lines as being one of most sought after in their stores. In 1999, Sander's sold 75 per cent of the stakes in her company to Prada Group and shortly after they parted ways. After four years of far less success, Prada Group asked Sander to rejoin and the long awaited return was greeted with a media frenzy. The line she released was edgier than her usual approach and her dresses included flashes of colour with sequins and streaks appearing on much of the clothing.
She then officially stepped down from the company and her eponymous label continues to claim its stake in the fashion world. The start of 2009 saw the return of Jil Sander to the fashion industry after joining forces with Uniqlo and releasing her own clothing range with the hugely popular Japanese company. The production line is known simply as +J and it boasts around 100 different items of clothing for women and 40 for men that include her signature simplistic style created from high quality fabrics. In autumn 2009 the new range was launched and it was met with heightened anticipation and as usual Sander did not fail to impress.
